POSITION SUMMARY:
The Point of Care Coordinator (POCC) works as a specialist in the point of care testing environment throughout the organization. This position requires flexibility, regular attendance and the understanding that the position and responsibilities may vary at times. The Point of Care Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all point of care testing according to the manufacturers procedure, CLIA requirements, Joint Commission and CAP accreditation standards. The Point of Care Coordinator assures quality testing and accurate test performance through operator training and competency, equipment monitoring, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, quality control review, and proficiency testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:


Bachelors degree in Medical Technology program or equivalent via certification through ASCP, AMT and
HEW or equivalent.


Licensed by the state of West Virginia as a Medical Technologist.


EXPERIENCE:


A minimum of 1 year of experience in the POC area desired. 3 years experience as a Medical Technologist.


Requires considerable knowledge of regulatory standards, safety and infection control practices. Must possess strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.


Select candidates must work with physicians, nursing and ancillary hospital staff to install, monitor and maintain all Point of Care instrumentation as well as train all new users and manage yearly competency assessments of POCT operators.

Learn more about this agency Responsibilities DUTIES: We are currently recruiting for a medical technologist, GS-644-7/9 to work as a generalist in all sections of the lab in the Pathology & Laboratory Service. The GS-7 medical technologist is in an entry level position where experience as a medical technologist is not required beyond the basic requirements. Assignments at this level serve in an entry level MT career development position practicing under close supervision of an MT at or above the full performance level. The GS-9 level is considered the full performance level for nonsupervisory positions. A MT at this level carries out the day-to-day operations in the laboratory. This would include routine testing, quality control, routine maintenance of instrumentation and troubleshooting. The MT develops, performs, evaluates, interprets, correlates and validates the accuracy of laboratory procedures and results ensuring all laboratory regulatory requirements are met. Clinical practice programs completed after 1974 must have been accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP, formerly CAHEA), or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). The professional curriculum may have consisted of a post-baccalaureate certificate program or be integrated into a four-year program of study that culminated in a baccalaureate degree. OR, (2) A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours of biological science (with one course in microbiology), 16 semester hours of chemistry (with one course in organic or biochemistry) and one course in mathematics, AND two years of post-certification clinical laboratory experience (e.g., blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical microscopy, etc.) within the last ten years as a certified Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC), American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Registry (ASCP-BOR) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
