Description
Oklahoma Technical College is seeking a Plumbing Instructor Substitute! The Plumbing Program combines theory with practical hands-on training, equipping students for entry-level employment as installers and technicians, encompassing the design, operation, maintenance, and installation of plumbing systems. As a professional in the Plumbing industry, you will use your career experience to educate the next generation of professionals with the fundamentals of plumbing, how to install, service, and repair plumbing equipment, and how to use different tools of the trade. Instruction will combine classroom and hands-on lab training. Instructors are responsible for sound educational practices and the academic development of each student. Instructors will manage the classroom environment and promote a positive and engaging learning experience, providing support, and tutoring, as needed.
Must hold a Journeyman's license with a minimum of three years of recent plumbing experience. Prior teaching or training experience a plus. General Substitute Instructor Duties/Responsibilities:
Teach students in person through lectures, discussions, and in the lab with hands-on training
Counsel students in a professional manner, offering constructive, encouraging, and timely feedback
prepare teaching materials and labs
Instruct students in plumbing safety practices
Evaluate student mastery of skills and competencies required by course outcomes
Teach courses, prepare teaching materials and labs
Assesses students' progress by grading assignments, exams, and other work
Provides individual tutoring or remedial instruction to students who require it
Model the CARES philosophy (Courtesy, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Success)
Performs other related duties as assigned
Reports to the Department Head

Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
Ability to teach students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds
Ability to promote an effective environment for learning in lecture and lab experiences
Ability to create, maintain, analyze, and negotiate the department budget
High integrity and ethical standards
Education and Experience:
A valid Oklahoma Plumbing Journeymen or Contractors license is a compliance requirement
Be in good standing with the Construction Industries Board of Oklahoma
A minimum of three years' verifiable plumbing field experience is required
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Must be computer literate; Proficient with Google Workspace
Experience with Canvas LMS a plus
Technical college teaching or industry training experience preferred
A diploma in the Plumbing field is a plus
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods are either sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing in a classroom or lab environment.
Ability to navigate to and walk around all areas of the college campuses, including stairs.
Ability to sit, stoop, bend, lie on your back, and work overhead. You will be required to be on your feet for most of the instructional period to best monitor student work and behaviors in open and enclosed work areas. Ability to lift 50 pounds from the floor to standard working height.
