Farris Engineering, a leader in providing quality designs for over 50 years, is looking to add a Plumbing Designer for building design and construction to our Omaha, NE office team.

As part of a 60+ person consulting firm you will be involved with projects of all types, budgets, and challenges throughout the United States. Projects may range from a small office building renovation to a large healthcare facility and include K-12 schools, higher education, liturgical, military, and correctional projects to name a few. This position requires an individual who can provide the utmost in accuracy of all technical work and correspondence and must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with the design team and our clients.

Major job duties include:

  • Performing plumbing calculations using software and applicable plumbing codes
  • Applying water pipe sizing, waste and vent pipe sizing, and storm water pipe sizing, with the assistance from engineers
  • Comply with CADD and Revit standards, project standards, filing processes, master specifications, training, etc.
  • Maintain an open dialogue with mechanical and electrical engineers



3+ years of experience as a plumbing designer/CADD technician or a combination of education and experience

Must have exposure to plumbing engineering design principles and methodologies

Must be able to read architectural and structural drawings

Proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Ability to use AutoCAD and Revit to develop and review design drawings



Strong knowledge of relevant systems and codes

Ability to self-direct and prioritize to meet project deadlines

Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with clients

Proficient in REVIT, MEP, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Outlook

The primary role of the Virtual Design & Construction Designer (VDC Designer) is to lead project implementation of VDC technology and related processes. The VDC Designer is the contact between the field, business units and corporate office. You will need to be proficient in multiple 3D programs to coordinate and collaborate throughout the constructions process. (Revit, Navisworks Manage, ect…) Great communication and collaboration skills are a must. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities: * Coordinate all BIM Modeling in Revit and maintain knowledge of trends in the BIM field * Identify constructability issues, missing information and notify project team of these issues * Ability to translate 2D drawings and specs into a complete 3D/4D models * Create fabrication drawings that are professional and accurate using architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical contract prints consistent with company standards. * Maintain project BIM execution plan * Estimate and establish VDC resources, budget and schedule for assigned project * Develop documents and implement practices and standards to optimize efficiency of projects * Complete other responsibilities as assigned by site management * This is a traveling position, you will be traveling from job to job, (higher wages and per diem for all traveling positions) Education and/or Experience: * Associates Degree (A.A., A.S.) from a two-year community college or technical college with an emphasis in Design and Construction * OR 4 years of related electrical training and drafting knowledge * OR equivalent combination of education and related experience/training Preferred Skills: * Experience with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, etc.) * Experience with REVIT drafting software * Able to communicate clearly with clients and other Interstates team members through both verbal and written communication * Must possess the ability to work cooperatively with others. * Must have a basic understanding of internal controls. * Able to prioritize work and deal with stress Travel: Travel is required full-time.
