MAINTENANCE PLUMBER

(12 Month Project Position)

Salary $52.05 - $57.52 / Hourly

(Appointment is generally made at one of the first of three steps, depending upon qualifications)

DEFINITION

Under supervision, performs skilled maintenance plumbing work and performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Installs, maintains, inspects, and repairs standard plumbing equipment in water, gas, sewage, and steam systems; and

• Troubleshoots plumbing systems; and

• Installs and repairs pumps; and

• Maintains a plumbing shop; and

• Makes rough sketches and estimates labor and materials for minor plumbing installations and repairs; and

• Advises on selection, ordering, and storage of plumbing supplies and equipment; and

• Consults with other trades persons; keeps simple records and makes reports; and

• Instructs and leads unskilled assistants.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in plumbing, or graduation from a recognized trade school;

WITH three years of experience as a journey-level plumber;

AND must possess a valid California driver's license and have and maintain an insurable driving record;

Equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE OF: Principles, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the plumbing trades, including safety practices; plumbing codes.

SKILL IN: Performing plumbing work, including making rough sketches of minor plumbing installations; reading blueprints and working from plans and specifications; estimating material and labor costs for minor plumbing jobs; and caring for tools, materials and equipment.

ABILITY TO: Perform work requiring some strength and agility, including abilities listed in the State of California Division of Industrial Accidents form RB-91 for this classification. Also requires ability to keep simple records and make reports; follow oral and written directions; instruct and lead unskilled assistants; usage and command of the English language at a level required for successful job performance (or with audio and visual capacities).
