DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides technical guidance in training and directing the activities of workers engaged in the assembly, installation and repair of pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, cooling, irrigation, water supply and waste disposal systems. Assists personnel with complex work assignments and inspects completed tasks to ensure quality standards are met.
Secures plumbing permits to install fixtures in city-owned buildings. Operates pressure test equipment to test installed systems for leaks, ensuring that system meets specifications. Interprets blueprints and construction plans in conjunction with water, gas, and sewage lines. Ensures adherence to plumbing codes.
The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects up to 80 pounds on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are occasional exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or GED and a current Texas Journey Level Plumber's license.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years of experience as a plumber are required.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
A valid driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2). A current Texas Journey Level Plumber's license.
Preference will be given to applicants with a current Texas Journey Level Plumber's license.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED
