Job Summary

This is advanced skilled work (journeyperson level) in the installing, maintaining and repairing of plumbing systems and their related components. Plumber IV performs skilled work independently under the guidance of a Chief Plumber (Foreperson) or other supervisory personnel and in accordance with the standard practices of plumbing trade.

This position will take place at both Homestead and West Campuses.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs systems pipe, fitting, fixtures and associated apparatus for water, sewer, septic and grease separation systems

  • Performs tasks by using the standard tools, materials, codes, methods and safe practices of plumbing trade

  • Makes use of the appropriate type of materials applicable to the situation, including black iron, cast iron, galvanized copper, lead, glass, brass, PVC, stainless, terracotta and others

  • Determines material and equipment required and oversees their use, security, and dispositions

  • Uses knowledge and experience of trade to determine a method or to devise a means to accomplish the assigned job

  • Interprets technical data from sketches, blueprints, schematics, and service manuals

  • Instructs and supervises helpers or other semi-skilled/skilled workers as required

  • Assists supervisor in planning modifications and new installation projects

  • Oversees use of and operates power driven and manually operated equipment and tools

  • Maintains record regarding materials, equipment, job assignments and work performed

  • Ensures that assignments are completed in conformance with instructions and applicable codes in a timely and cost effective manner

  • Stays current with codes and technological methods and advances of this trade

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • A minimum of four (4) years diversified experience in the plumbing trade

  • Must possess a journeyman's license

  • Maintenance license can be substituted if applicant is a MDC employee

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution

  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures

  • Considerable knowledge of trade tools and of occupational hazards, safety precautions, local codes, and regulations pertaining to the trades is essential

  • Knowledge and experience of the trade to determine a method or to devise a means to accomplish the assigned job

  • Ability to plan, assign, review, supervise, and inspect the work of others, schedule facilities and staff, and coordinate work with other trades

  • Ability to read, write and understand oral and written instructions

  • Ability to interpret technical data from sketches, blueprints, schematics, and service manuals

  • Ability to use electronic mail, web based trouble report systems, and C.M.M.S software

  • Ability to travel in county to all campuses

  • Ability to work any shift including weekends, and holidays

  • Ability to perform on-call work and respond to after-hour emergencies

  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff

Essential Position

  • This function/position has been designated as "critical." This means that it has job duties that affect the security, safety or physical operation of the College, and are required to work at the Emergency Operations Center and/or have access to the incident scene once normal campus operations have been suspended.

Additional Requirements

The final candidate is to successfully complete a background screening and reference check process.
