The Maintenance and Utilities Services Department provides maintenance and repair for campus facilities. This includes the maintenance and operation of utility systems, plants, and water and electrical distribution systems. The department also manages and monitors all internal utility meters and is responsible for building control systems and infrastructure equipment.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Plumber II is responsible for repairs and maintenance of Plumbing Systems and provides support services to other trades. A variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties are performed to carry out the essential functions of this position.

Technicians should have experience and/or training in the plumbing field. The technician may also be responsible for escorting and supervising contractor activities occurring on campus as requested by supervisor. This position reports to a manager, or other appropriate supervisory or management position while working under the oversight of a team lead where applicable.

This position receives direct to general supervision in the form of assignments/work orders, projects, and tasks to be completed. This position requires knowledge gained through prior experience with plumbing systems. Performs a variety of tasks related to plumbing.

Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform advanced functions of the job while relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Primary job functions require exercising some independent judgment. Exercises a certain degree of creativity and latitude.

This position also requires skill in analyzing system malfunctions and determining appropriate repairs. This position is identified as "Essential Personnel" and may be required to report to work during emergencies or when the university is closed. This Position may be required to participate in On-Call rotation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Install, preventively maintain, inspect, and repair sinks, faucets, traps, floor drains, commodes, urinals, flush valves safety showers, drinking fountains, water heaters, point of use water filters, and reverse osmosis and DI water systems.

Repair and preventively maintain gas, vacuum, air, domestic, chilled, and hot water lines. Preventively maintain, install, repair, and inspect potable water piping and equipment for buildings.

Install, maintain, repair, and replace sanitary and storm sewer lines. Maintain discharge piping by opening clogs, repairing leaks, and installing new pipes as necessary.

Install and maintain booster, and sump pumps. Maintain and repair rainwater harvester systems for LEED certified buildings. Repair fume hood valves, vacuum breakers, pressure reducing valves.

Cutting, sweating/soldering, welding, and assembling pipes, tubes, fittings, and fixtures.

Monitor contractor activities for projects during their planning and implementation. Assist in training of Team Members in plumbing duties.

Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

High school diploma or equivalent; Two years of appropriate experience in the procedures and methods for installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing fixtures, heating fixtures, and accessories; appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Valid Florida Class E operator (driver) license.

PREFERRED:

Plumbing license or certification and four years of plumbing experience in commercial building maintenance. Knowledge of intermediate building maintenance procedures for various trades.

SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:

Competent, responsive, helpful, and self-starting team player with the ability to learn and develop new skills. Compliance with operational policies and safe work practices.

Ability to lead a team, provide coaching and/or mentoring to a group or individual. Using and maintaining hand and power tools. Oral and written communication skills.

Familiarity with industry standards and technical expertise. Basic level proficiency in MS Office suite and other industry standard software.

FLSB1310 Equivalency:

4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.

6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
