The position is located at Alexander Correctional Institution in Alexander County, NC, a 1,000-bed close custody prison that houses Male Offenders.  The primary purpose is to install, maintain, alter, and repair plumbing systems and components at Alexander Correctional Institution.

 This position is responsible for the ongoing preventive maintenance and continuous repair of numerous water/piping systems throughout the facility, which includes over 40 pneumatic mixing valves, domestic water systems, non-potable water systems, heating/cooling piping, and 10 hot water boilers.  Will install, repair, and replace commodes, sinks, water coolers, water heaters, garbage disposal, dishwasher, shower valves, water faucets, flush valves and other related fixtures and equipment.  Will normally perform duties at the journeymen level of the plumbing trade.

 At times, this position will be expected to provide assistance to other maintenance staff in other areas of responsibility.  As such, this position will be cross-trained and able to perform or assist in the performance of other construction or maintenance related tasks as assigned.  This position will be required to supervise skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labor (including inmates).

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

 If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the repair, replacement or construction of piping systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
