Position Description
What you will do at Harris County Precinct 2
Under general supervision of the Construction Superintendent, the Plumber is responsible for skilled plumbing work, maintenance, and repair of department facilities. Installs, maintains, and repairs pipes and fixtures associated with heating, cooling, water distribution, and sanitation systems in residential and commercial structures. Fixes domestic appliances, such as dishwashers and gas cookers. Inspects drainage and other plumbing systems for compliance with local and national regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares, coordinates, documents daily work assignments; Interprets blueprints and building specifications to map layout for pipes, drainage systems, and other plumbing materials
Installs/repairs pipes and commercial fixtures, such as sinks and toilets, for water, sewage, gas, steam, air, hydraulic or other liquids; installs various systems like: HVAC, water heaters, lift station, pumps, sump, septic systems, boilers, or compressed air.
Constructs/assembles/repairs fittings and valves for new installation or replacements, modifies length of pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing materials as needed
Drives and operates all types of construction equipment as assigned (bucket truck, forklift, front end loader, bob cat, backhoe, one man lift, multi-person lift, ditching machine, mini-excavator, sewer equipment, camera systems, and pipe jet systems)
Collaborates with contractors, construction workers, electricians, pipefitters, or steamfitters when installing and repairing plumbing
Inspects and tests plumbing systems for leaks and other problems
Constructs new installations; adds to existing installations; and repairs
Perform any additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned by management or as necessitated by the evolving needs of the organization.

Skilled in all phases of plumbing techniques, materials used, methods of installation and new construction
Ability to use plumber's tools (saws, pipe cutters, etc.,) as required
Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics
Ability to communicate orally and in writing
Ability to work well with public and other staff members
Residential and Commercial plumbing service skills and drain cleaning

Hours may vary based on business needs of the department and some weekend, evening hours or holidays may be required during special events.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Work is on active construction and vertical sites involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations; loud and constant noise; and regular exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and combustible materials. Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures. Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g., hard hats, respirator masks, gloves, etc.). will work on ladders and occasionally on scaffolding, roof tops and elevatoed surfaces.
This is a physically active position which requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Duties require standing, sitting, stretching, bending, stooping, climbing. Will work in cramped and awkward positions with all types of mechanical tools, electric, plumbing and other equipment.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
