JOB TITLE: PLUMBER I

$3,023.00-$4,114.00
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under limited supervision, responsible for installation, maintenance and repair of water and waste disposal systems. Reports to the Assistant Director of Maintenance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Measures, cuts, threads, assembles and installs pipes and tubing.
Connects valves, caulks, joints and tests finished jobs by allowing water to flow through.
Installs water, sanitary fixtures and equipment with supports, hangers or foundations.
Eliminates leaks by repacking valves or by replacing faulty fittings or sections in line.
Replaces worn parts.
Makes corrections as needed.
Maintains tools, equipment and supplies for proper job performance.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Works with other related maintenance trades as directed.
Performs other related maintenance functions as directed by the Assistant Maintenance Director.
Occasionally requires non-scheduled hours of work due to emergency needs of the school system.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school with three years of experience in plumbing or related field, or any combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate power tools and mechanical equipment.
Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently. Must be able to perform all related tasks including lifting and climbing as needed to perform the job functions. Physical demand requirements are for medium to heavy work.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics of things.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read simple forms. Requires the ability to prepare time sheets and supply requisitions using prescribed format.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas, to add, subtract, divide and multiply.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using a computer.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as maintenance equipment.
Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors or shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate levels of stress.
Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk, write and hear.
Other: Requires State license in plumbing and a valid NC driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of the techniques, methods and tools of the plumbing trade.
Skill in the use of tools, materials and equipment used in plumbing work.
Ability to understand and carry out oral or written instructions.
Knowledge of current building codes.
Ability to work without direct supervision.
