Platform Engineers translate high level platform design into low level technical design and are responsible for implementing, administering, supporting, and patching their corresponding platforms. Platform Engineers work closely with Solution Architects to enable the capabilities defined on roadmaps and blueprints supporting platform programs and initiatives. Platform Engineers are well versed in modern data, infrastructure and integration platforms, industry/technology best practices, and actively work on improving the reliability and scalability of infrastructure.

Platform Engineers on the EDI/EIE Team are responsible for managing Costco IT Enterprise's Managed File Transfer system (MFT) and Electronic Data Interchange solution applications and services. We are looking for an individual that is interested in providing the best operational excellence to Costco and Vendors through secure transport and data transformation.

This individual would be responsible for implementing, administering, supporting, and patching their corresponding platforms (B2Bi, Tli, Axway, Syncplicity). The ideal candidate has the ability to rapidly learn technical concepts and apply them as solutions in the Costco EDI environment. Candidates should have the ability to coordinate with vendor and Costco IT groups to implement system upgrades and customizations.

ROLE

● Collaborates with delivery pods and Architects to improve production deployments, platform operations, and environment stability.

● Assesses technical components, translates high level design into low level technical design, and executes updates based on SLAs.

● Manages the platform on an ongoing basis while performing typical run functions like monitoring, patching, and support.

● Leads and conducts code reviews, design reviews, testing, and debugging activities at the application level.

● Conducts regular platform checkups and report inefficiencies to relevant business and technology stakeholders.

● Collaborates with infrastructure and/or provisioning groups to stand up the platform.

● Develops and instruments monitoring dashboards depicting platform health and performance.

● Develops and builds scalable and generalized frameworks to support the integration of internal and third-party APIs.

● Performs analysis on existing platform components to identify improvements to software development processes.

● Develops and implements Platform as a Service (PaaS) Solutions.

● Remediates platform issues and bottlenecks impacting software development activities.

● Participates in the creation of documentation and artifacts used to describe the mechanisms used for deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.

● Collaborates with Architects and technology team members to define development tasks and activities within technical user stories to support the implementation of Infrastructure as a code solution.

● Performs coding tests to validate hardware design correctness, and creates software regression tests to ensure its reliability.

● Plans and Implements arrangements for Disaster Recovery and conducts related testing of recovery procedures.

● Delivers against business objectives by effectively managing and partnering with technology vendors.

● Conducts research and makes recommendations on standards, products, and services.

● Tests diagnostics (including) automated regression testing.

● Develops and executes integration testing plans (as needed).

● Authors and executes test cases related to supporting the implementation of platform development work.

● Maintains the catalog of services for the platform in collaboration with the Architects.

● Implements service monitoring across all platforms to ensure continuous availability and operational continuity of critical systems.

● Evaluates and documents all operating systems according to required standards.

● Participates in the development of continuous integration/continuous development frameworks in support of DevOps and Agile practices.

● Delivers project-based work to agreed target dates and notifies project manager and manager of any roadblocks.

● Works with vendors, business and application development teams, and other technical teams to meet the needs of the project.

● Takes responsibility for account and connection creation/configurations, testing, implementation within B2Bi, TLI, Axway, and Syncplicity platforms.

● Owns change management planning and implementation. Creates the RFC and tasks, facilitates the documentation of rollback strategies, hypercare support, and handoffs to business/EDI Team.

● Works with team, engineers, and EA to implement and support the project's infrastructure design.

● Manages the platform on an ongoing basis while performing typical run functions like monitoring, patching, and support.

● Provides a high level of end-user support (Troubleshoots transfer failures/issues, resets passwords, and resubmits file transfers as needed).

● Seeks opportunities to learn, automate, document, share, educate, and improve processes where appropriate.

● Analyzes, designs, and integrates configurations and customized solutions in B2B environment.

● Provides troubleshooting documentation for 1st and 2nd level support teams to assist them with resolving system issues.

● Provides status reports and progress updates for assigned tasks.

● Works with business areas and project teams to prioritize work list, coordinates testing, and implementations.

● Adheres to established standards and procedures, including configuration management, coding, testing, and documentation standards.

● Works in partnership with key business users, identifying potential ways of improving the efficiency and/or effectiveness of current business operations.

● Provides support for existing EDI workflows that integrate with Costco back-end business systems.

● Ensures compliance with regulations including, but not limited to, SOX and PCI.

● Performs maintenance of systems technical documentation on a regular basis.

● Understands and adheres to Costco's project methodology and framework, Costco's Mission Statement, and Code of Ethics.

REQUIRED

● Experience using Axway Secure Transport, or similar multi-protocol File Transfer system.

● Understanding of X12 and EDIFACT standards, mapping, and development of EDI transactions.

● Experience using Configuration Management software (Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, or Chef).

● Experience with managing security certificates, Public/Private Keys, SSL, and SSH.

● General architectural understanding of B2B systems including traversing firewalls.

● Experience with Change/Release Management (Planning, rollout, testing, implementation, rollback plans, and mitigation).

● Experience and willingness to teach/mentor others.

● Fundamental networking knowledge.

● Possesses a strong ability to translate user requirements into technical solutions.

● Possesses proven ability to manage vendor engagements with successful outcome.

● Strong organizational and planning skills, with experience building and executing tactical plans.

● Ability to interact effectively with internal clients, team members, vendors, and management. Practical understanding of Agile concepts, SDLC, and test-driven development.

● Flexible with ability to change priorities quickly, focus on new ones without distraction, able to deal with conflict, and work under pressure to meet deliverable dates/timelines.

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

● Willing to learn third party applications and tools.

● Willing to split time between development and operations tasks.

● Ability to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays, as necessary.

Recommended

● 3+ years' experience with B2B systems.

● 1+ years' IBM ILE RPG and CLP programming experience.

● Understanding of canonical data models for EDI transactions.

● Experience with job schedulers; such as Robot, AJS, and UC4.

● Basic Linux command line experience.

● Proven ability to successfully balance workload on multiple high priority projects.

● Strong analytical, problem solving skills.

● Proven ability to work independently or as a member of a team.

● SSL/SSO experience.

● Hands-on experience on IBM iSeries systems including basic command line entry.

Pay Ranges:

Level 2 - $105,000 - $135,000

Level 3 - $130,000 - $160,000

Level SR - $150,000 - $190,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
