Description:
Candidates will be working in the operation of a demonstration plant that produces jet fuel, diesel fuel, gasoline, paraxylene (chemical that is found in plastic to make plastic bottles or clothing) and other bio-based aromatic chemicals. The chemical engineer will be responsible for learning the Delta V process.
This includes learning to read a schematic of the plant on two large monitors. The monitor has scaled down drawings of the plant itself including different valves, pumps, and piping which the candidate will have to read then go on the floor to turn the valve, replace parts, or change switches. Essentially the monitors and other operators (leads) will tell the chemical engineer what to do and they go on the floor to do it.
They will be trained to take samples of products to the lab, and learn basic chemistry. There is a week long training period that will acclimate the candidate to the work being done.
