JOB SUMMARY
The Sand Plant Supervisor is responsible for managing the performance of day-to-day operational activities which include stripping, dredging, and plant operation as well as plant and mobile equipment maintenance. This position will assist the Superintendent and/or Operations Manager in all aspects of his/her duties including, but not limited to, continued improvement of the safety program, cost projections, workforce planning, performance evaluations, ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies, meeting production and cost goals, quality control, and other functions as assigned by management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Promote the safety program by developing relevant topics for catwalk conversations, driving the conversations, and following the program outline in its entirety
Provide support to the plant safety advocate(s) in their duties
Ensure that all employees under his/her area of responsibility receive competent task training to safely perform his/her job duties
Ensure that all safety training is properly documented in a timely manner
Complete all necessary reporting requirements in a timely manner
Promote and enforce attendance requirements, observe employee behavior, and participate in catwalk conversations
Schedule employee duties and adjust to changes during the shift based on production demands
Supervise the daily activities of assigned production, maintenance, and support personnel
Conduct regular site inspections to ensure all safety, maintenance, and plant cleanup items are addressed correctly and in a timely manner
Participate in screening, interviewing, and hiring personnel
Conduct development and performance improvement discussions with all employees under his/her area of responsibility and properly document discussions in a timely manner
Evaluate all processes and procedures and give recommendations that will optimize operations
Assist with environmental reporting and sampling requirements
Ensure that all onsite plant and mobile equipment is properly maintained
Evaluate and interpret plant and mobile equipment preventative maintenance oil samples and make necessary corrections as needed
Work closely with vendors as needed to evaluate performance of existing and new products and develop information for cost justification of capital improvements and optimization of operating processes and procedures
Conduct monthly stockpile inventories and adjust inventory balances
Follow all company policies and local, state, and federal regulations for safe working procedures
Reliable, regular attendance at the worksite or assigned work location
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required
Associate's degree with the intent to obtain a Bachelor's degree or Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
At least 3 years in aggregate mining operations or related work experience required
Previous supervisory experience preferred
Experience with quality control procedures and the ability to make necessary changes to meet gradations preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Possess a safe work history
Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and good driving record
Have a proactive approach towards our safety program
A general understanding of dredging, classifying, screens, conveyors, and associated processing equipment preferred
Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, nights, and weekends
Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude that fosters effective relationships
Excellent verbal, written, and reading comprehension skills
Good computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Good mathematical skills including the ability to figure stockpile volumes, conveyor belt speeds, sheave speeds, etc.
Strong mechanical aptitude
Ability to work near, around, or on light and heavy equipment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Lift objects of various dimensions and up to 100 lbs. of weight frequently
Ability to repeatedly climb stairs and ladders
Ability to repeatedly balance, bend from the trunk, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
Ability to use vibration producing tools frequently
Ability to tolerate working outdoors in all environmental temperatures and weather conditions
Ability to repeatedly reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged standing/walking/sitting
Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces
