ABOUT THE ROLE

The Plant Superintendent oversees and coordinates the operations within the underground and surface mine site, ensuring a cohesive split-shift unit consisting of union personnel, mine engineer, and plant support staff, while being responsible for the safety, health, and environmental compliance of the site. Directs the day-to-day activities to ensure objectives are met: manages, through subordinate personnel, the various operations associated with mining, processing, stockpiling, loading, and shipping of quality aggregates. Plans, staffs and supervises the work unit to ensure uninterrupted supply of aggregate product.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • This position requires a self-actuating, goal oriented person who is able to initiate and implement production and scheduling all related activities such as drilling and blasting coordination, KPI strategies and techniques that result in increased productivity while maintaining plant, property, and equipment to ensure safe operations, while containing the budgeted expenses.

  • Ensures that employees are at work on time, actively engaged in assigned department activities and conforming to established internal and external safety/environmental/compliance regulations to include MSHA and other regulatory agencies. Plans, schedules, and monitors all work being performed.

  • Administers direct supervisory responsibilities for production, maintenance, and shipping personnel, including training, performance evaluation, corrective action, and work schedules. Provides immediate performance feedback as required to resolve employee conflicts, and assists in short-term resolution of emergency situations such as safety, attendance and conduct.

  • Works with Foremen/Lead men and others to ensure that goals are achieved. Studies production schedules and estimates worker-hour requirements for completion of assignments. Coordinates and executes established activities to ensure that goals are met.

  • Provides feedback on equipment operation and production effectiveness. Ensures proper documentation of operations activities in logs and/or incident reports.

  • Responsible for completing production reports pertaining to production Key Performance Indicators, employee performance/conduct and process flow. Responsible for monitoring efficiency and throughput, material use, quality, and inventory of aggregates and well as critical consumables to ensure the readiness of the processing and mobile equipment. Participates in budgetary recommendations on capital expenditures and project management needed for achieving the desired objectives.

  • Investigates abnormal operating events or equipment failures to determine cause; coordinates adjustments, repairs, and/or modifications as needed.

  • Performs inspections on plant equipment, on-going and completed jobs; ensures conformance with policies and procedures, safety codes and local, State, and Federal laws, regulations, and ordinances. Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas. Oversees the overall safety of any personnel working at or visiting site.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Education: High school diploma or 10 years of equivalent experience.

Preferred Work Experience: 5-7 years of operational / production experience

Licenses Preferred: Valid Driver's License

Required Training/Certifications: Current MSHA

Required Computer and Software Skills: Basic computer knowledge, Microsoft Office and SAP

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
