Pay

This position is a Non-Exempt position at pay grade 109.

Attendance

Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday

  • Friday; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The Plant Operator II is responsible for adequately monitoring treatment of drinking water throughout the full process to include hazardous chemical handling, filter assessments, regulatory compliance sampling, and process control sampling. This position is also responsible for assisting in the maintenance and operation of the 161.5 million gallon per day facility. The will provide citizens with an uninterrupted, adequate supply of safe drinking water that meets or exceeds all state and federal drinking water standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in operating a surface water treatment facility utilizing intermediate knowledge of conventional water treatment process in accordance with state and federal regulations

  • Perform sampling, monitoring, and testing required to maintain compliance with state and federal regulations governing drinking water treatment

  • Conduct laboratory analysis such as pH, turbidity, chloring residual, alkalinity, etc. in compliance with TCEQ state approved lab requirements

  • Startup/Shutdown raw water intake pumps and monitor intake bar screens operating rakes as needed to prevent obstructions to flow

  • Assist with planned repairs and re-routing flows or startup/shutdown of equipment and processes for plant projects

  • Ability to understand and operate Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems that monitor and control plant processes

  • Identify and help resolve operating issues

  • Monitor filter conditions by conducting filter assessments to include visual observations, core sampling, backwash monitoring, and other analyses

  • Assist in training of entry level operators

  • Conduct and record routine equipment calibrations and verifications in accordance with state and federal requirements correcting or reporting issues with equipment as needed

  • Operate a variety of equipment/machinery including valves, pumps, motors, disinfection equipment, vehicles, etc.

  • Conduct preventative maintenance and issue corrective maintenance work orders through the City's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)

  • Ensure facilities, including satellite locations, are secure

  • Clean and maintain plant grounds

  • Maintain detailed records and logs of laboratory activities and issues occurring during the shift

  • Assist in internal and external comprehensive compliance investigations

  • Perform data entry functions in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)

  • Maintain records for regulatory compliance

  • Directly handle hazardous chemicals such as chlorine gas, sodium permanganate, sodium hydroxide (liquid caustic solution), etc.

  • Maintain adequate chemical inventory

  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Requires a High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience
  • TCEQ Class C Water Operator License required at time of hire
  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
