Plant Operator

Location: Morrisville, PA

We are seeking dedicated individuals to support expanded operations at our facility in Fairless Hills, PA. The Plant Operator is a dedicated individual who has proven experience monitoring and operating field equipment for all plant systems safely and efficiently, including the ability to perform a complete start-up and shutdown of the system. The Operator must be able to monitor and make adjustments to the system to ensure good product quality. The Plant Operator will work rotating shifts with a team of process technicians and equipment operators, including some weekends.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Overseeing, maintaining, and cleaning all systems inside the Total Ash Processing system to include all components in the dry plant and wet plant, as well as proper lock-out tag-out of these systems

  • Ensuring proper operations of the Total Ash Processing system and assisting other operating personnel as necessary to support plant operations

  • Performing emergency procedures to bring the plant down safely

  • Giving basic directions to junior personnel

  • Reporting issues record and report production information and prepare for end of shift

  • Operating a front end loader, a skid steer and a forklift as required for miscellaneous plant operations

  • Performing general housekeeping of the work area or other areas of the plant

  • Performing or assisting in basic preventative maintenance as required.

Education and Experience Requirements include:

  • High School Diploma / GED

  • Minimum of 3 Years' relevant industrial, plant or military experience

  • Energy from Waste (EfW) experience is strongly preferred

  • Water treatment experience is strongly preferred

  • Experience with equipment, including but not limited to, forklifts, skid steers, front-end loaders and bulldozers, is required

The ideal Candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of infeed plant, wet plant operating equipment and their components

  • Basic knowledge of electrical components including operating and setting VFDs

  • Ability to read and understand operating manuals

  • Accurate hand-eye coordination required to operate equipment and to open and close valves in order to ensure safety of employees and plant equipment

  • Ability to comply with standard operating procedures to reduce the likelihood of injury to employees and damage to plant equipment

  • Ability to work entire shift in basic personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses, respirator, gloves, steel boots and hearing protection.

  • Ability to work in close quarters and confined spaces and in varying conditions of heat, dust, noise, mud, water and vibrations.

  • Ability to work in harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow, extreme heat, etc.

  • Ability to work overtime

Must be within 60 minutes of the normal commute to the plant for facilitating plant emergency needs. Must have the ability to work swing shifts, work alone, weekends, and holidays. How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW? This position has responsibility for operating a cryogenic Air Separation Unit (ASU). The Production Technician is responsible for maintaining safety, plant production, operating efficiency and regulatory compliance. * Monitors and maintains the safe operation of an Air Separation Facility which produces cryogenic products * Controls flow purities, pressures and processes using SCADA/HMI/PLC system * Work with management to maximize production and efficiency to meet the needs of our customer base by adjusting flows and production rates * Reads and interprets technical drawings and manuals * Performs quality assurance functions associated with products to maintain quality assurance * Prepares and maintains accurate records in accordance with all safety, quality, regulatory and production requirements, such as plant readings, plant maintenance, instrument calibrations, etc. * Responds to plant/production disturbances (on-call) * Performs complex plant functions, including derime and warm plant start-ups * Performs preventive and corrective maintenance throughout the entire plant to include compressors, pumps, turbines, valves, motors, electrical equipment, and other plant equipment * Troubleshoots, repairs and calibrates process and system problems to restore efficient operations, including PLC, DCS, and other computer interface stations; control valves, pneumatic and electronic control equipment and instruments * Takes initiative to improve facilities (i.e. operations, reliability, and costs) without direction * Performs administrative functions, (i.e. requisitioning, purchasing, production accounting, and payroll record-keeping, closure of PO's and time inputting) Are you a MATCH? * High school diploma or general education degree (GED), two years technical college or military technical experience and 2 plus years of operating an Air Separation Plant or related industrial experience * Critical thinking - ability to work independently to troubleshoot, diagnose & solve issues with process and plant equipment * Requires the use of considerable judgment to recognize plant process problems and interpret malfunctions to make decisions accordingly * Requires the ability to use common hand tools and test equipment necessary for repairing and replacing mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment * Water Treatment - understanding the water treatment principles and equipment is a plus * Refrigeration - A basic understanding of refrigeration systems is a plus * Air Separation - A basic understanding of air separation and associated technologies is a plus * Basic to Moderate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) as well as Google applications (Gmail, Drives, Docs, Sheets and Present) About Airgas Airgas, an Air Liquide company, is a leading U.S. supplier of industrial, medical and specialty gases, as well as hardgoods and related products; one of the largest U.S. suppliers of safety products.
