Plant Operations Student Worker

Brewton-Parker College is seeking to fill a student worker position in the plant operations department. The Student Worker performs a variety of tasks under close supervision of higher-level employees. These tasks may include assisting with the extra workload, covering absences and vacations, and supplementing crews to meet unusual changes in the production area or in the weather.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Maintains a working area free from debris and dirt, and readies or puts away tools as assigned.

• Closely follows directions to operate machinery, hold or supply materials and tools, and load or unload items.

• Cares for the property by cutting grass, repairing the yard, pulling and discarding weeds, or shoveling and removing debris.

• Performs any unskilled job around the campus.

• May be trained to operate various hand tools and small equipment.

• Reports any issues to supervisor or higher-level employee.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions.

• Ability to work in a variety of roles, alone or in a group.

Education and Experience:

• Previous experience preferred.

• On-the-job training offered.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods standing and walking.

• Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at times.

• Must be able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.

• Manual dexterity as needed to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.

• Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with maintenance and trades work.
