JOB TITLE: Plant Maintenance Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Public Works & Transportation

DIVISION: Water Pollution Control

SALARY: $27.36/hr ($56,917/yr)

CLOSING: Open Until Filled

Job Summary/Scope

Directs all repairs of electrical and mechanical equipment, rolling stock, roads, buildings and grounds, lift stations and sub pump stations. Supervises maintenance personnel and prepares necessary reports and records. Direct and indirect supervisory responsibilities. Assists supervisor with maintenance budgets for plant and lift stations.

Supervisory Responsibility

Integral to the position of Plant Maintenance Supervisor is the responsibility for developing subordinates to their fullest potential by exercising appropriate degrees of coaching, training, guiding, evaluating, correcting and, if necessary, disciplining.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assigns daily work projects and plans schedules for special projects.

  • Maintains records of costs, receiving reports, accounts payable, supply requisitions and pricing.

  • Maintains records of repairs involving equipment, materials and facilities.

  • Supervises maintenance projects and employees in maintenance division.

  • Works with immediate supervisor and manufacturing representatives for new equipment and equipment modifications.

  • Plans and revises piping and valve changes and other operating equipment changes and alterations. Assists in preparing and monitoring the maintenance division budget.

  • Assists in developing Capital Improvement Planning (CIP) to maintain and improve facilities and equipment.

  • Remains on call after hours for emergencies.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Skills in personnel management, public relations and problem solving in relations to mechanical equipment.

  • Knowledge of industrial, mechanical, electrical/electronics, hydraulics and computer application of tools and equipment, pumps and hydraulics.

  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment process and procedures.

  • Ability to organize several projects and sets priorities.

  • Ability to lead and direct the work activities of others.

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment, make correct decisions using skills and knowledge to arrive at correct conclusions.

  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Five or more years of prior experience required.

Material and Equipment Directly Used

Use of hand tools, small power tools, acetylene and arc welding tools and materials and a forklift. Uses a variety of office equipment including typewriter, copier, fax machine, telephone, 2-way radio and other related equipment. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work frequently sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Education

Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent in a related field preferred. Related experience in same or closely related field may be substituted at two years for every year of education.

Passing of a drug screening required prior to appointment.
