Plant Maintenance Mechanic I - Nassau Community College

Job Description:

The Facilities Department of Nassau Community College (NCC) is seeking a Plant Maintenance Mechanic I to maintain and repair a variety of machinery and equipment throughout the campus. Under general supervision, the duties require the exercise of judgment in performing maintenance and repair work.

In addition, the Plant Maintenance Mechanic I will:

• Maintain and repair power generating units, electrical, and auxiliary equipment.

• Maintain and repair sewage treatment equipment.

• Maintain inventory of mechanical parts utilized in a sewage treatment plant.

• Grease and oil machinery and parts, and check temperatures, pressures, and water levels.

• May provide limited supervision when necessary.

• Maintain basic records of parts and supplies used.

Requirements:

The Plant Maintenance Mechanic I should have:

• Knowledge of the maintenance, repair and operation of pumps, motors, valves, mechanical and electrical equipment.

• Knowledge of the mechanical and electrical parts utilized in a sewage treatment plant.

• Ability to maintain inventory.

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

• Ability to maintain basic records

Minimum qualifications include graduation from high school or vocational school AND two (2) years of experience maintaining machinery and equipment and/or in maintaining inventory of mechanical parts utilized in a sewage treatment plant.

NOTE: Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the two-year requirement, may be substituted for the education required above on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two (2) years.

Additional Information:

The Plant Maintenance Mechanic I position is a Grade 8, non-competitive Civil Service title. The starting salary is $32,718 per year. After one (1) year, salary will increase to $37,333. Benefits include NYS retirement plan, health, dental, optical insurance, vacation, sick, and personal leave.

Candidate must be a current resident of Nassau County for at least one (1) year.
