We are looking for a motivated individual to serve on a team of Plant Maintenance Mechanics for Raleigh Water. The ideal candidate will perform skilled mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of all wastewater plant and pump station equipment. This exciting opportunity needs someone with knowledge of equipment installation and/or modification; analysis and reasoning skills to troubleshoot malfunctions and make repairs; and strong inspection skills to identify issues, confirm system corrections, and adjust equipment as necessary.

You will also work with other mechanics regarding structured work preparation, handling associated work orders through our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), cost sheets, work plan adjustments, and standard operating procedures. If this sounds like a job you can take on, we would like to hear from you Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, upgrades, and installs machinery and equipment in a high volume, continuous-run working environment Reads and understands mechanical prints, electrical wiring diagrams and schematics Repairs and replaces AC/DC motors, pumps, gearboxes, and engines Observes and listens to mechanical performance to troubleshoot malfunction and test performance of equipment Performs inspections, adjustments, and replacement of defective parts. Ensures the mechanical maintenance work area, warehouse, and storage areas remain neat, clean, and orderly Cleans and repairs hand tools and power tools used for mechanical equipment maintenance Prepares job site, assembles and organizes equipment, tools, and materials; and maintains a neat, clean, and orderly job site Manages hard-copy library of equipment operations and maintenance manuals.

Assists with completing preventative maintenance work orders Operates forklift to complete work duties as assigned Assists with inspecting failed or malfunctioning mechanical equipment. Navigates CMMS for past work history and gathering work orders Maintains inventory of health and safety equipment for maintenance mechanics As needed, this position involves overtime work with participation in an on-call rotation schedule and may perform special tasks during emergency and disaster events Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED and three years of maintenance experience OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications: Certification/licensure for water/wastewater operators consistent with North Carolina law Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years of continuous experience in the repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and tanker endorsement, forklift, and/or Maintenance Technologist Certification is preferred to be obtained within 2 (two) years of hire Knowledge of:

Standard practices, methods and materials of assigned work Business math concepts Filing and record-keeping principles Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices Uses and properties of supplies and equipment Applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations Customer service principles Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment Modern office technology Skill In: Perform skilled mechanical tasks and maintenance of various equipment; machines, pipes, and valves to include replacement of motors, gearboxes, and shafts on pumps at remote pump stations and at the wastewater treatment plant Recordkeeping and communicating information effectively verbally and in writing Working on a team and with minimal supervision Performing equipment inspections and monitoring maintenance requirements Reviewing system data and laboratory testing results and taking appropriate action Organizing tasks, meeting deadlines and prioritizing competing demands Providing attention to detail in assignments Proofreading and error correction Business math computations Organizing and maintaining reports, records and files Maintaining and updating data and documentation Comprehending reference books and manuals Operating assigned tools and equipment Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations and standards Providing customer service Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction ADA and Other Requirements: Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Working Conditions:

Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); frequent exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids); frequent exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and movement restrictions; and moderate exposure intense noise or travel.
