Description

Performs skilled labor in the installation, maintenance and repair of City Water Plants and equipment; maintains and adjusts equipment to meet job specifications and technical codes.

Examples of Duties

Performs skilled labor in the installation, maintenance and repair of Water plant equipment and components; reads and interprets technical manuals; assists with maintenance of facilities and grounds; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills. Checks facilities and equipment to verify proper operating conditions and identify maintenance needs; repairs equipment and components and performs preventive maintenance on mechanical and electromechanical equipment and components as directed.

Repairs and adjusts equipment and components; verifies equipment functions meet job specifications and technical codes. Performs maintenance activities within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; notifies supervisors of problems beyond the scope of authority. Maintains Water plant work areas in a safe and orderly condition; operates and maintains a variety of specialized vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports vehicle and equipment problems requiring additional repair.

Follows all safety rules and regulations; utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations. Cleans up and stores hazardous materials according to City policy and procedures; responds to emergencies as needed. Cross-trains in proper work methods and safety procedures.

Maintains daily work logs and records of maintenance services performed. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or GED equivalent, and one year of technical maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Ability to obtain a Class D Water license from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in five months; ability to obtain a Class C license within nine months of meeting TCEQ requirements OR ability to obtain Millwright I classification within nine months.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Work is performed in Water Plant facilities; required to perform moderate physical work, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Full manual dexterity and visual acuity is required. The job risks exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, and toxic/caustic chemicals.
