As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Plant Maintenance Engineer.

What We're Looking For:

We are currently hiring a Plant Maintenance Engineer. As a Plant Maintenance Engineer your main purpose would be to maintain the building as well as the ammonia system.

Required Education and Experience:

  • RETA Certification
  • 6 plus years of facility and ammonia system maintenance

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facility repair and maintenance of all types, including; roofing, walls, siding, floors, windows, and warehouse cold storage doors.

  • Forklift and forklift battery repair and maintenance, including complete overhaul.

  • Monitor, operate, and maintain all ammonia refrigeration equipment, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and supporting equipment.

  • Visually check all refrigeration equipment and take daily readings on compressors, condensers, plant pressures, and warehouse temperatures.

  • Maintain and repair electrical systems including wiring, breakers, panel boxes, electrical motors, chains, sprockets, belts, bearings.

  • Monitor condenser for proper operation. Check chemical usage, maintain and repair motors, water pumps, vales and floats.

  • Fabrication and welding/cutting of various metal projects including platforms, steps/stairs, handrails, and warehouse racks and other equipment as needed.

  • Must be able to do carpentry, plumbing, and pipefitting, including pipe threading.

  • General housekeeping and custodial duties, including maintaining and cleaning restrooms, lunchrooms, office, cleaning and sweeping cold storage warehouse floors, and cleaning and washing engine room equipment and floors.

  • Operate heavy equipment and power tools of all kinds.

  • Check and maintain cold storage fire systems for proper operation and assist with yearly confidence testing.

  • Grounds maintenance and cleaning, including snow removal, debris removal, and road grading.

  • Must maintain CPF and first aid certification.

  • Requires annual ammonia safety training.

  • Must be willing to work any shift and be available to work overtime and weekends and or holidays, to meet production or emergency demands.

Physical Requirements of the Job:

Special conditions: This job entails working in a cold storage warehouse in subzero temperatures. As such, the employee must be able to work in these conditions, wearing appropriate cold weather apparel, often for extended periods of time.

All of the requirements below may involve working in these subzero conditions.

  • Standing- The employee needs to be able to stand or walk ¾ of the shift and may be able to sit for approximately ¼ of the work shift.

  • The Pace of the job is set by the employee, as reasonable and as required by outside constraints such as deadlines.

  • Lifting- There are times when it is necessary for employees to lift as much as 80lbs. to a level of 36 inches above the floor. Most instances of required lifting involved about 40-60lbs. for episodes of approximately 20 minutes on an occasional basis.

  • Twisting- This job position does not require twisting activities while lifting.

  • Push/Pull- At times the employee must push/pull up to 200lbs.

  • Bilateral Hand/Wrist use is essential with fine motor skills constantly being used as well as pinching/gripping frequently, and repetitive twisting and bending of the wrists.

  • Elbows- Forceful and repetitive bending and straightening of both elbows is required.

  • Shoulders- Forceful and repetitive use of shoulders is required and is often above shoulder level.

  • Knees- Working on the knees is often necessary as are squatting activities.

  • Climbing- There is a significant amount of ladder work required in this job, sometimes to a height of 18 feet or more above the floor, often in below zero temperatures for extended periods of time.

  • Walking- up to 2-3 miles per day may be necessary.

  • Vision- 20/40 or better required with or without correction.

  • Color Vison- Employee must have adequate color vison to distinguish color coded lines and wires.

  • Hearing- Must be able to hear better than 40 Decibels threshold level in at least one ear.

  • Health- Must be able to pass a health review by a licensed health care provider to certify the employee can safely wear an ammonia mask in strenuous conditions and be able to meet physical demands to work around ammonia.

Food Safety Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Wear proper food safety PPE.

  • Use food grade materials (lubricants) when in tunnel areas or any area outside of the maintenance shop.

  • Maintain good general housekeeping.

  • Upon task completion, account for all tools, spare parts, material and shop supplies. Ensure that equipment and work area is clean and free of debris. Return items to storage and dispose of consumables.

  • Prevent any product contamination by refraining from the use of tape, wire, string or any other temporary repair. If temporary repair must be used, correct the temporary repair as soon as possible.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Floor surface: Mostly concreate, some mats, occasional grates throughout the plant, dirt outside plant.

  • Floor condition: Even but wet surfaces.

  • Chemical Exposure: Exposure to cleaning solvents, lubricants and paints.

  • Room Temperature: -16 to 90 degrees.
