Job Summary
Job Summary
The Plant Maintenance Engineer (PME) position exists to provide mechanical work associated with the maintenance, repair, and operation of all the various heating, ventilating, and air condition (HVAC) equipment and other building systems located throughout the Rochester Community and Technical College campus. This position is responsible for maintaining the environmental climate of all campus buildings and spaces in relationship to temperature, ventilation, and humidity in order to provide a healthy and comfortable environment in which the entire campus community can function safely and efficiently. The PME provides first response to most building problems and is responsible for the determination and coordination of work, repair, and operation of all HVAC and building systems. The position works in accordance with all codes and standards adopted by the State of Minnesota pertaining to indoor Air Quality (IAQ), Minnesota State Biler and Pressure Vessel codes, and the State of Minnesota Engineering condes and regulations. This position is listed in the Physical Plant Emergency call list, and will, on occasion, be expected to respond to related emergency situations.
Responsibilities
Performs skilled maintenance and repair work on heating and power equipment, boilers, engines, turbines, stokers, conveyors, generators, pumps, compressors, heaters and motors.
Checks oil lines, pumps, bearings, meters, valves, regulators and controls.
packs valves and replaces liners, rods and bearings.
Performs steamfitting work in repairing and replacing steam pipes and radiators.
Maintains, repairs and adjusts elevators, ventilating and refrigeration equipment, electrical appliances, sterilizers, mangles, presses, dryers, steamers and similar equipment.
Does electric and acetylene welding.
Performs related work as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Minnesota C Chief Class Boiler License
Class D Driver's License.
Must pass driving checks.
Ability to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions.
Able to assist with snow removal as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of applicable city ordinances and State of Minnesota ordnances regarding PME related areas.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Two years working with pneumatic controls and /or building automation systems.
Computer knowledge and experience sufficient to utilize work order system, email system, and general computer software programs.
Two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of high-pressure boilers, heating, and ventilation systems, air conditioning systems, and all related mechanical equipment.
Refrigeration License or willing to work toward Refrigeration license.
Physical Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
