Classification Summary:

Provides facilities management and support services for a specified University unit or component; coordinates activities of supporting organizations to assure continuity and smooth operation of the facility. Maintains usage and maintenance records.

May perform or oversee clerical, marketing, and public liaison functions associated with the facility. May assist in space management function and possess specialized skills, such as drafting. May supervise skilled/craft, or facilities technicians.

Classification Standard Duties:

Coordinates the maintenance of facilities, buildings, and equipment, as appropriate, to ensure optimum functionality; identifies, assesses, negotiates as necessary, and resolves building maintenance and usage problems. Serves as liaison between facility operations and physical plant operations; recommends correction of deficiencies; coordinates remodeling activities, as appropriate to the position.

Schedules space usage, controls key issuance and building security; prepares calendars and maintains records. Oversees events held at facility; interacts with caterers, and/or auxiliary staff as appropriate to the specific event. Oversees and coordinates day-to-day on-site public assistance activities such as security escort, public information, and/or visitor transport services, as appropriate to the position.

Provides technical support and troubleshooting of equipment, as appropriate to the specific position, which may include telecommunications and computer hardware and software. Prepares scheduled and periodic reports of facility usage, maintenance, and condition. Maintains and orders equipment and supplies for facility operations.

May operate heavy equipment for grounds maintenance, as appropriate to the specific position. May supervise and/or lead lower graded staff and/or student employees. Performs various clerical duties as required, including logging and routing incoming mail, light typing, and preparation of outgoing mail. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency

Required Education:High School diploma or GED certificate.; Required Experience:Three (3) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency:Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.; Required Certification/License:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control. Knowledge of building design, construction, and maintenance.

Knowledge of the operational and maintenance characteristics of a range of electronic office equipment.; SKILLS:Records maintenance skills. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.

Organizing and coordinating skills. Skill in utilizing building security and lock systems and procedures. Clerical and basic office skills.; ABILITIES:Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events. Ability to schedule events and/or facilities usage.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates the maintenance and repair of utilities assets located at the Central Utility and Satellite Chilled Water Plants. Maintains equipment operation usage and maintenance compliance records required by the New Mexico Environmental Department.

Serves as liaison for NMSU Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management, State Boiler Inspector and State Insurance Underwriter. Coordinates scheduled utility outages with the NMSU community, City of Las Cruces and El Paso Electric. Responsible for coordinating with NMSU EHS & Risk Management and certified NMED Emission Testing contractors.

Maintains open purchase order agreements for emergency repair services. Request quotes and prepare estimates for equipment repairs. Manage warranty claims associated with contractor services or equipment failures.Maintain appropriate levels of chemical inventory for steam and chilled water plant operations.

Administer the Tunnel Access Control process to NMSU and external personnel. Provide technical support and troubleshooting of utility production equipment. Prepares scheduled and periodic reports of facility usage, maintenance and condition.Oversees and coordinates on‐site public assistance activities such as security escort, public information and visitor tours.

Maintains the daily Afterhours Callout Logs used for timesheet auditing purposes. Perform utility tunnel inspections and generate deficiency work orders for any abnormal or failed equipment.

Environment: Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Lifting Requirements: Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
