Title: Plant Engineer

Reports to: Plant Manager

Status: Exempt

Job Summary:

The Plant Engineer is responsible for providing technical engineering and analysis support for power plant activities following prescribed procedures and conducting analyses to develop design options or recommendations for structures, systems, and components. The Plant Engineer will provide leadership to the plant staff in operations, maintenance, business, engineering, and environmental functions while ensuring conformance with all facility contracts, permits, and safety regulations. In addition, the Plant Engineer will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and will serve as a secondary interface between these agencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the overall plant performance and coordinates closely with the O&M Manager for maintenance work at the facility. This includes managing preventive maintenance to ensure operational efficiency.

  • Responsible for the coordination of major maintenance on the gas and steam turbines and assures compliance with long term maintenance agreements with General Electric.

  • Act as Project Engineer for all site projects, which includes coordination of all work with corporate engineering and project management of site installation. In addition, the Plant Engineer will source and coordinate all site sub-contracting, including facilitating bids on prospective work, and oversight of the sub-contractors when performing work.

  • Coordinates with Plant Manager to develop and oversee the provisions for an integrated Asset Management Plan, including Capital Projects Management, Management of Change Program, and Technical Library & Drawings Management.

  • Oversees the effective monitoring of plant performance and develops monitoring programs for advanced elements such as transformer health monitoring, combustion dynamics, gas turbine & steam performance, and air-cooled condenser performance.

  • Serves as the Single-Point-Of-Contact for the effective oversight of the plant Distributed Controls, Maintenance Management System, and overall plant IT Network.

  • Provides expert guidance on the replacement, repair or selection of pumps, instruments, controls, and/or other plant equipment.

  • Provide support to the O&M Manager and Compliance Manager to ensure plant operations meet environmental and safety protocols.

  • Must be a self-starter and able to work effectively with minimum supervision.

  • Maintain effective working relations with customers, personnel, other client contacts and plant staff.

  • Adhere to safety procedures and programs.

Job Requirements:

  • Able to accomplish multiple tasks and respond quickly and effectively to changes and priorities.

  • Requires good computer skills Microsoft Office.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills to identify, analyze, and recommend solutions.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, motivational and teamwork skills required.

  • Solid organizational and administrative skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Duties require walking, standing for extended periods of time, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, and lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs. Exposure to extreme heat and cold.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • The frequent use of protective equipment (i.e. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, etc.) may be required.

Education / Experience:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering. Mechanical Engineering preferred.

  • 7+ years' experience in a power plant environment.

  • Experience in plant maintenance or plant project management or plant engineering desired.

  • Experience with power plant distributed controls a plus, especially GE and Ovation systems.
