Responsibilities

What do our Plant Care Specialists do?

As a Plant Care Specialist, you will have a strong work ethic and keen attention to detail. You will also be able to work independently and possess a genuine desire to service customers by taking the best possible care of the plants in their work environment.

  • Visit customer sites on a regular basis as established by route plan

  • Service all required plants on the specified day

  • Water, prune, change out and clean plants as needed

  • Carry plant care materials, occasional lifting and climbing of ladders to reach plants.

  • Communicate with the customer contact on a regular basis

  • Display horticultural competence

  • Provide a premium quality of service to our customers

  • Ensure the customer site is clean and orderly throughout visit, no water, waste or debris left behind

  • Keep route schedule organized for maximum productivity

What do you need?

  • High school diploma or GED, college preferred

  • At least 2 years of customer service experience (Horticulture or Greenhouse experience preferred)

  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn

  • Able to work independently and enjoy hands-on work

  • Available to work Monday-Friday and Saturdays as needed

  • Must pass pre-employment background screen and drug test

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and pass motor vehicle record search

VIEW JOBS 10/10/2020 12:00:00 AM 2021-01-08T00:00 Job Description This class is the first level in a five-level Plant Operations Series devoted to providing operational, technical and maintenance support for the City's water and wastewater treatment plants.Incumbents are responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of water and wastewater facilities and equipment as assigned. Hiring range: $38,242.00 - $42,162.00 (Promotional range may vary) Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties: * Operates plant equipment which may include belt presses, distribution booster pumps, bypass valves and/or spray irrigation; monitors equipment alarms and maintains distribution tank levels; hauls and loads residuals to trucks for removal, as assigned. * Performs plant area and equipment inspections of press system and equipment; detects pipe leaks and monitors chemical flows and chemical tanks; changes feed systems and chemical pumps as needed; remotely monitors lift station equipment, as assigned. * Performs visual, olfactory and auditory checks of assigned areas of the treatment plant to detect any failures of equipment and electronics; monitors and validates Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) information; monitors chemical feeds, filter rates, reservoir levels and filter parameters; operates and makes equipment adjustments as needed. * Performs facility equipment inspections; monitors distribution tank levels; responds to plant equipment alarms and determines required corrective action; performs repairs and/or notifies appropriate maintenance personnel; notifies leader or supervisor of critical issues. * Performs, collects and/or reports sampling and laboratory analysis for process control and/or compliance reporting; monitors chemical levels within established parameters; verifies accuracy and reliability of data. * Receives and responds to briefings related to current plant status, safety, training and daily operating instructions; reviews SCADA for status; performs assigned operational and routine maintenance tasks. * Enters and maintains data in laboratory information management system; maintains daily logs and assignment-related documentation. * Receives and monitors chemical deliveries and required tank capacity; maintains appropriate storage of chemicals and supplies; performs routine grounds maintenance and general maintenance of work areas. * Attends safety and team meetings. Attends required in house training. * Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. * Must be able to work rotating 12 hours shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and on call. Must be able to work during emergency events such as ice/snow storms and hurricanes. Typical Qualifications Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED and three years of maintenance experience. 1-3 years' experience at a Surface Water Treatment Plant preferred. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation. Licensing/Certifications Depending on assignment, some positions may require: * Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record. Valid North Carolina Class B CDL Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record or ability to obtain Class B CDL within 45 days of date of hire preferred. * North Carolina WPCSOCC Physical/Chemical Grade 1 Certification preferred * Must pass North Carolina Physical/Chemical Grade 1 Certification exam within 2 years of date of hire.
