About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison's (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE's 5 million customer accounts.

This position will be in the Local Planning division within Southern California Edison's (SCE) Transmission & Organizational Unit (TDOU).

Position Overview

The Local Planner 1 will support the regulatory requirements of SCE's electrical distribution system by developing and designing plans, identifying necessary resources and providing cost estimates and options for the construction of distribution facilities. This position interacts with a diverse customer base on meeting electrical design needs and is responsible for providing successful outcomes for the customer and SCE on assigned or requested projects.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Coordinate activities with other internal personnel and/or organizations to ensure compliance and appropriate follow-through of policies, procedures, rules, rates, and completion dates applicable to his/her assigned projects.

  • Manage work orders through the entire process and taking accountability for customer satisfaction

  • Maintain a current understanding of industry practices, standards and customer needs.

  • Acquire permits and easements, identifying environmental requirements and coordinating required project components with other departments, customers, governmental bodies, and various external sources.

  • Manage numerous less complex design projects from inception to construction completion.

  • Perform meter spots and related design work.

  • Support system emergencies as they arise.

  • Maintain a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.

  • Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a successful graduate from Service Planner Development Program (SPDP) OR possesses one or more years of experience in Electrical Utility Distribution Design, Transmission Design, Distribution Line construction, or Electrical Engineering discipline.

  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license.

Desired Qualifications

  • A combination of formal education, training, and experience to gain knowledge, skills, and abilities generally equivalent to those possessed by a high school graduate.

  • Experience with resource books such as DDS, UGS, ESR, Overhead and Underground Construction Manuals preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and designing electrical distribution plans, identifying necessary resources and providing cost estimates.

  • Demonstrated experience managing work orders/projects and maintaining a current understanding of industry practices, and standards.

  • Demonstrated experience acquiring permits and easements, identifying environmental requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working with customers, identifying needs and resolving customer issues.

  • Demonstrated experience, training, or education applying technical information related to engineering, drafting, architecture, construction, mapping, design, mechanics, mathematics, science or computers.

  • Demonstrated experience managing several projects concurrently, adjusting to shifting priorities, and meeting deadlines.

  • Demonstrated experience working with computer aided design software (i.e. Auto CAD)

  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients/ customers.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others.

  • Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze information, and make sound decisions independently and in consideration of applicable policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and be accountable for the accuracy of information and for achieving results.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Able to drive, traverse on uneven surfaces, occasionally lift up to 40 lbs, sit/stand for extended periods of time, work in various weather conditions, and possibly be in remote regions (coast, desert, and mountain) for extended periods of time.

Position Overview This position will be a Planning Supervisor within Southern California Edison's (SCE's) Transmission & Distribution Business Line. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the activities of the staff by providing direction and support, assessing and managing the workload and performance of the employees, mentoring, and providing training and development to employees. The Planning Supervisor will be accountable for providing accurate reporting on department projects status and managing resource needs. This position will interface with departmental, company-wide, governmental, and various external organizations to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Typical Responsibilities Include: * Resolving complex design issues from commercial/residential developers and governmental agencies. * Supporting and monitoring the implementation of new work processes and methods, technology and automation (e.g., proactive scheduling of design tasks), while meeting ongoing project demands. * Participating in various teams to assist in improvements within the Design Organization. * Providing future load projections to various departments within SCE. * Monitoring various reports to ensure accuracy and developing/revising business plans as appropriate. * Attaining customer satisfaction goals and addressing elevated and sensitive customer issues. * Establishing and maintaining consistent work practices. * Managing projects effectively to meet agreed upon expectations. * Responsible for work order review and approval. * Managing the selection, training and development, performance management, compensation, and discipline of subordinate personnel. * Supporting the implementation of change in a change resistant environmental. * Managing and enforcing safety standards and protocols to ensure a safe work environment. * Performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
