Salary: $77,312.40 - $96,640.50 Commensurate with Experience
SUMMARY
In working to put communities and citizens first, the City of Charlotte's Department of Planning, Design, and Development is committed to creating great places. The Department of Planning, Design, and Development is chiefly responsible for collaborating with community partners, guiding growth, sustaining the natural environment while also designing vibrant and inclusive avenues for citizen enjoyment.
This is an advanced level project coordinator position that will have a range of responsibilities in conjunction with the preparation and analysis of rezoning cases throughout the city, as well as the preparation of ordinances and regulatory language for ongoing implementation and development of the City's Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).
These responsibilities may include some or all of the following: technical writing, planning research and analysis, plan review, development proposal review, policy development, meeting facilitation, presentations to elected and appointed officials, and geographic information services support.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinating the zoning, land development, historic district, and subdivision review processes
Guiding growth & enhancing design of City / County
Promoting & supporting economic development in fiscally and environmentally sustainable manner
Revitalizing & enhancing neighborhoods, business areas and corridors
Planning for development of Center City & other major activity centers
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Extensive planning background with emphasis in application of regulatory tools such as zoning
Site plan review experience with experience analyzing & assessing complex urban rezoning petitions
Thorough understanding of planning policy & implementation of policy through regulations
Ability to confidently communicate with excellent public speaking, writing skills and group facilitation skills
Collaborative leadership with ability to facilitate multi-disciplinary teams
Ability to perform effectively & efficiently with minimal level of supervision
Ability to integrate multi-disciplinary perspectives
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, civic, community and business groups and the general public
Creative problem-solving
Prioritize and manage multiple tasks
Ability to communicate effectively and express complex ideas succinctly
Excellent organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in urban planning or related field
AICP or other certifications (CZO, AIA, LEED, etc.)
Five (5) years of thorough professional planning experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite
Preference for experience with ArcGIS software
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 3 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree and 1 year of experience
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The City's Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate's written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.
Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
