Summary

The Land Development Division of the Planning, Design, & Development Department is seeking a Planning Project Coordinator with considerable zoning experience who will coordinate the zoning review of land development proposals within the City for compliance with the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and Legacy Zoning Ordinance. Work performed is technical and detail oriented, requiring the comprehensive application of zoning regulations and adopted streetscape plans to propose land development projects. This role also serves as a lead representative of Commercial Zoning on various Planning and Land Development collaborative teams to assess and ultimately improve daily operations such as review process updates and team training needs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Comprehend on a detailed level the technical code regulations in both the Legacy Zoning Ordinance and the UDO, providing comprehensive zoning review comments on Land Development and building permit submittals.

  • Manage multiple permit submittals at a time, maintaining assigned review deadlines.

  • Coordinate regularly with City Planning and Land Development agency staff on process, review, and training improvements.

  • Participate as a lead member of specialized review groups such as the Housing Trust Fund, Enhanced Review, and UDO Bonus teams.

  • Train and provide continued support to all new and existing staff as a senior level reviewer.

  • Provide excellent and efficient customer service through phone calls, e-mails, virtual and in-office meetings, appointments, and walk-in customers.

  • Engage and participate in meetings with Commercial Zoning staff, Land Development staff, Planning, Design, & Development staff, and other City departments and legislative bodies.

  • Complete and participate in other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, including the ability to effectively communicate graphically, verbally, and in writing, tailored to the appropriate audience

  • Extensive knowledge and comprehension of civil site design and architectural principles and practices

  • Ability to read and review civil site plans, surveys, landscape plans, architectural elevations, and subdivision plats, with the capacity to train new team members on how to achieve understanding of these review related documents

  • Experience training and/or mentoring individuals in a professional setting

  • Ability to identify, collect, and relay the technical and process improvement needs of the Commercial Zoning team to multidisciplinary teams established to coordinate recurring issues or concerns.

  • Effective time management and prioritization skills in maintaining project review schedules and deadlines while coordinating multiple projects at a time; and

  • Ability to perform effectively and efficiently with a moderate level of supervision

Preferred Qualification

  • AICP, CZO, or other certifications desirable

  • At least five years or more experience in Planning and plan review

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Geography, or related degree

  • At least three years of direct planning and/or zoning related work experience with ability to comprehend technical code regulations and problem solve complicated zoning related matters

Conditions of Employment
