Position Overview:

Michael Kors is looking for a Planning Manager to help create the disciplines necessary to develop a planning function process necessary for the retail division that will enable to further grow revenues and profit. This position will oversee a team of 6 people with 3 of them being direct reports.

Major Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Partner with the VP of Planning to develop and enhance planning processes and functions needed to run the business more efficiently and effectively, as well as analyze the business in order to identify risks and opportunities for further growth.

  • Managing a team of 6 people with 3 of them being direct reports.

  • Leverage cross-functional teams and initiatives to create opportunities and efficiencies for the Retail Division.

  • Take leadership role in managing open-to-buy, planning and forecasting processes and planning calendar.

  • Develop actionable analysis with main objective of identifying opportunities to drive business from top-line to store level while building, managing and motivating a cohesive planning organization.

  • Clearly communicate to Planning and Buying teams the financial objectives, action plans, opportunities, learnings and liabilities of the business in order to enable strategic decision making.

  • Take leadership role in execution of strategies to drive business.

  • Work closely with Buying and Planning teams to initiate and develop actionable analysis to recap business by classification and subclass at a top-line as well as store level in order to drive sales and achieve gross margin profitability.

  • Identify needs of division from a reporting and process perspective to ensure opportunities are identified and actioned upon in a timely manner.

  • Create reports/recaps of the business, develop financial plans and monitor the performance of sales, inventory, markdowns and profit by classification from a top-line to bottoms-up level, including managing the open-to-buy.

  • Work closely with the Buying team to analyze seasonal merchandise assortments and execute merchandising strategies including creation of SKU plans at the Department, Classification and Cluster level.

  • Initiate and create analysis to recap business by classification and style in order to create actionable strategies with the Buying team in order to drive sales and achieve gross margin profitability.

  • Recommend buys based on thorough analysis of retail business prior to each market to achieve increased sales, profitability and sell-thru percentage.

  • Monitor and control markdown cadence and aged-inventory levels in order to maximize profitability while achieving necessary sell-thrus.

  • Lead and manage direct reports while challenging them to be opportunistic about the business.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have 8+ yrs. experience in Retail Planning; Store Planning and/or allocation experience preferred

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree

  • Computer Literate Advanced Excel Skills

  • Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills

  • Strong analytical skills, creative problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment are a must

  • Prior leadership/management experience a must

  • Previous experience working for a vertical retailer

In this role, you will strategize and execute the methodology behind sales and inventory forecasting for our Luggage category, while overseeing granular, bottoms-up target setting. You will be responsible for driving several critical company KPIs, including inventory turns and in-stock rates. You'll be instrumental in ensuring that we always have the right product at the right place, in the right quantities, at the right time. The ideal candidate will have planning and allocation experience at companies with complex retail and ecommerce models, be highly skilled in Excel, detail-oriented, analytical, and eager to iterate on and implement new processes. This position will report to the Senior Manager of Planning and Allocation based out of our headquarters in SoHo, NYC. What You'll Do: * Strategize and execute forward-looking planning processes starting at the most granular luggage product level, rolling all the way up to company-wide forecasts to determine how much inventory the company needs * Collaborate with the Allocation Manager to ensure that we are optimizing this inventory through best-in-class allocation strategies across a growing network of warehouses and retail locations * Own several critical company KPIs, including inventory turns & in-stock rates (company-wide & by-warehouse/retail location) * Collaborate cross functionally with Product Marketing, Finance, Retail, and Data teams to ensure a cohesive strategy where Away is always getting the right inventory to the right place at the right time for our customers * Work closely with cross-functional teams to iterate and implement new processes and create ad hoc reporting as needed * Partner with Senior Manager of Planning & Allocation to assist the Planning team with departmental goals and processes Who You Are: * 4-6 years experience in inventory planning and allocation roles that are both strategic and executional * Strong written/oral communicator * Experience working with a complex network of warehouses & retail stores * Experience in a role that managed planning for both e-commerce & retail stores * Comfortable and confident making decisions and recommendations grounded in data * High level of proficiency with Excel including data manipulation/organization and modeling/forecasting * Intellectually curious and a data-driven approach to planning strategy and execution * Highly proactive identifier of improvement and optimization opportunities; every time you are introduced to an existing process, you immediately ask is this the single best way to do this for our goals? * Excellent project management and organizational skills * Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires continual multi-tasking and prioritization * Experience with a business intelligence tool like Looker or Tableau preferred, but not required * Love to travel (but that's a given) You'll love working at Away because: * We travel.
