Job Overview

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions: Provide planning support for designated area(s); ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP).

  • Utilize network balance capacity tools to determine location of trucks and available customer loads; tailor planning to meet area needs. Understand daily capacity needs/opportunities and pro-actively communicate to appropriate leadership.

  • Know and understand the intricacies of operational market assigned; plan for acceptance of loads. Utilize Network Decision Support tools to assign loads to trucks (i.e MicroMap, Plus One, Network Balance, Capacity Management); ensure customers' service requirements are met.

  • Responsible for the booking of loads, the successful dispatch of planned loads and subsequent ownership of loads for assigned area.

  • Coordinate fleet capacity needs with operations leadership and drivers; work closely with designated department personnel teams to manage and maintain customer trailer pools. Collaborate with other Planning Center teams to coordinate Network needs/opportunities and execute agreed upon strategic plans.

  • Communicate late pickups and/or deliveries, as well as any other load changes, to appropriate department personnel.

  • Comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) Regulations & Safety Compliance guidelines; validate driver hours of service to safely and legally facilitate the delivery of loads, honor specific driver/company requests related to operations/safety training, research driver issues regarding non-compliance items (overweight loads, load routing, hours of operation, equipment type, etc.) and provide resolution accordingly to meet legal requirements. Forward unresolved issues to appropriate internal departments for resolution.

  • Communicate professionally, effectively, and timely with both internal and external customers/contacts.

  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner which facilitates the success of business operations in order to meet company demands and expectations.

  • Perform additional duties assigned by leadership.

  • Skills:
    Analytical; logical thinker with ability to think two steps ahead and successfully analyze different pieces of information and put them together like a puzzle; ability to influence others; ability to communicate well with others; ability to transfer knowledge; ability to identify opportunities to increase efficiency and to improve processes to obtain and maintain quality results; ability to solve problems and work in high pressure situations; ability to take direction from leaders; detail oriented; computer/keyboarding skills; knowledge of the transportation industry preferred.

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.

  • Experience Required: Previous driving experience or one (1) year of operations or customer service experience required; experience in logistics or information technology preferred. Relevant four year college degree or related experience utilizing analytics and operations systems may substitute for operations experience.

VIEW JOBS 11/12/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-10T00:00 POSITION PURPOSE The purpose of this position is to ensure that truckload freight from vendors picks up and delivers on time at the right cost, and that the system accurately reflects status of all loads. To achieve this, logistics planners must work with vendors, carriers, and DCs to ensure all parties are executing as desired and that each party is accountable for failures. Each planner is responsible for a single geographic region and is the business owner of that region. The average planner will oversee 30,000 loads per year and be accountable for $35 million in annual freight spend. MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 20% Each Planner is the leader/business owner of their region to include, but not limited to, DC Support and FTEA (operational & financial reporting analysis & action) 20% Ensure all vendors/carriers needed to operate a region are set up properly in TMS with regards to location IDs, SKU data (cube/weight) & tendering strategy. Also responsible for Vendor On-boarding. 15% Ensure vendors are following proper protocol for communicating information to THD - provide frontline compliance enforcement for RTS requirements (accuracy, timeliness) and ensure any failures are noted on a log so they can be corrected. 20% Ensure all freight is tendered within 30 minutes of being made available & that load tenders follow the desired tendering strategy, to maintain optimal cost. Identify and log any recurring failures of the tendering strategy so they can be corrected. 20% Ensure all loads are picked up and delivered on time. Review the loads in trouble report each day to identify loads that are delayed from pickup or delivery, and troubleshoot them until resolved. 5% Support emergency operations (hurricane response, ice storm recovery, etc.), sometimes requiring work at irregular times (weekends, nights) & irregular durations (double shifts, etc.). NATURE AND SCOPE Position reports to the Manager Logistics No direct responsibility for supervising others. ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS Environment: Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable. Travel: Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be eighteen years of age or older. Must be legally permitted to work in the United States. Education Required: The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job. Years of Relevant Work Experience: 1 years Physical Requirements: Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles. Additional Qualifications: Spend most of the day in front of a PC and a considerable amount of time on the phone. Position requires night/weekend work approximately once per quarter as part of a rotation.
