Day to Day

This position would assist in the production of a wide variety of planning projects including, but not limited to active transportation plans, corridor studies, safety action plans, mobility hub studies, and trail studies. Staff would be responsible for developing deliverables such as GIS-based mapping and analysis, technical writing, research, developing plans and reports, presentation materials, public workshop materials, grant assistance, and a wide range of public engagement activities. As a Planner III, this position could also serve as an Assistant Project Manager on many projects and support the Project Manager by serving as Task Leads and assisting with other duties such as invoicing, project scheduling, project budgets, and management of subconsultants.

Qualifications

Required

This position requires a combination of skills, experience and education including, but not limited to

  • (4) or more of experience in a consulting environment or public entity

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning or a related field of study

  • Experience in GIS: Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in GIS and ability to coordinate with the GIS manager on map deliverables, quality, and processes.

  • Proficiency in Quantitative Analysis: A solid background in data analysis, cross tabulation, and data interpretation is essential. Candidates should be able to apply data driven techniques to inform evidence-based decision-making in planning and design contexts.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and analytic skills.

  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Arc GIS, or similar products

  • Proficiency in an enterprise-wide resource planning and project management tools

  • Ability to manage competing priorities, multiple simultaneous projects involving cross-functional project teams within budgetary and schedule constraints

  • Ability to guide staff members and manage internal team expectations

  • Demonstrated understanding of the planning process and a general understanding of project management principles, methods and techniques.

  • Strong initiative and the ability to work independently with little or no supervision

There are a number of additional skills, experience, and education that would be beneficial to this position including, but not limited to:

  • Master's Degree in Urban Planning or similar field

  • Expertise and experience in the field of New Mobility

  • Experience managing large projects for both private and public clients.

  • Experience writing and/or presenting white papers and/or providing expert level presentations at conferences and other events promoting the field of sustainable infrastructure and active, non-motorized transportation.

  • Experience using Deltek Vision.

  • Experience using Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst.

  • Active participation in industry-relevant professional associations and committees.

  • AICP Certification.

Compensation

The pay range for this job in Durham is $70,000-$90,000 annually. Placement within the range is based upon experience, skill-sets, and qualifications.
