The Work You Will Do:

This Planner I position performs work under the direction of the Environmental Administrator for the Division of Waste Management, Waste Reduction & Recycling Program located in Tallahassee, Florida. This position requires a self-motivated individual who can perform multiple duties within the State of Florida Waste Registration and Recycling Program. It requires independent decision-making responsibility for the registration activities in the Waste Registration Section, including pollutant and hazardous substance tank facilities, waste tire facilities, hazardous waste generators and dry-cleaning wholesale and retail facilities. It requires a high degree of accuracy of decision-making and recording data into database management systems.

The Planner I assist customers in the processing of registration applications, notifications, renewals and invoicing, while applying state and federal laws, rules, and regulations with the implementation of the Storage Tank and Drycleaner Registration Programs. The Planner I also provide guidance and technical assistance to the public, district, local programs and internal staff and provides updates for management on registration related issues, including coordination of updating and revision of the online data collection system, as needed.

Pay: Annual Salary:$33,760.00 - $36,470.16(Commensurate with experience)

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • This is intermediate level work. This position will conduct organizational studies and evaluations on office procedures providing technical assistance and developing procedures to assist the program to operate more efficiently and effectively. Assists in the implementation of Storage Tank and Dry-Cleaning Registration Program. Initiates, plans and coordinates registration efforts for Storage Tanks and Dry-Cleaning; including evaluation of registration applications for accuracy and completeness, provides guidance and technical assistance to the public, district, local programs and internal staff, provides updates for management on registration related issues and the Business Portal updates, including coordination of updating and revision of the online data collection system with the system developers, as needed.
  • Data entry of new and revised information submitted to the section in registration-related documents. Enter new and revised information accurately and in a timely manner and verifies input. Performs necessary database searches to identify duplicate entries.
  • Organize and prepare registration documents for scanning into Oculus after data entry is completed. Coordinates with section staff in preparing invoices, placards, letters and decals for distribution to registered owners and operators.
  • Provide Technical assistance to DEP managers, local governments, contracted inspectors, district staff and regulated public on registration regulations and requirements.
  • Other duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Skilled in basic computer operations, keyboard data entry and typing.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; review data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics calculations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and professionally; establish and maintain working relationships with others.
  • Ability to collect, enter, retrieve, analyze data and maintain a database system.
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver's license.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university; or Any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience for a total of two years.

Other Job Related Requirements for this position:

  • Valid Driver's License.

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP-422 (Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility).
