The purpose of this job is to provide project management for current and long-term planning and development cases by coordinating development review of planning and development applications including those for annexation, zoning, and subdivision of property, preparing reports, and acting as point of contact for the public. Serves as staff liaison for assigned committees, boards, and commissions including grant writing and administration. Conducts planning studies and public outreach.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs current and long-range planning functions, including drafting plans and studies and inspecting projects site for accuracy of plans and land conditions.
Serves as project manager for planning and development applications.
Provides inter-departmental permit and plan reviews and approves building permits and business licenses.
Serves as liaison to assigned committees, boards, and commissions and responds to planning and zoning inquiries.
Prepares reports for the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment.
Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Development, Construction, or related field.
Less than 1-year experience in planning, development, construction, or related field.
Licenses or Certifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position
Knowledge of:
Relevant laws and regulations pertaining to planning, development, and public records.
Basic engineering, architectural, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) principles and computer programs.
Trends in urban planning, zoning, public services, and capital planning.
Skill in:
Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.
Applying active listening and asking questions for understanding.
Collecting, organizing, and analyzing complex and/or technical data.
Ability to:

This position requires an individual with a desire to be exposed to a variety planning-related topics ranging from regulatory development and administration to comprehensive land use plans and policy documents. Applicant's should be self-motivated, detail-oriented team players that can establish and maintain positive working relationships and are experienced communicators verbally and in written form. Experience/exposure to work within a governmental agency and public engagement/outreach processes is highly desirable.
