Position Summary

As Planned Giving Manager, you will play a pivotal role in securing the future financial stability and growth of our organization through the cultivation and management of planned giving initiatives. This role encompasses relationship and programmatic management with a focus on cultivating, stewarding, and growing legacy donors.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead by action and example to advance a culture of positivity, professionalism, trust, transparency, empathy, and excellence at Joybound.

  • With the Senior Director of Development, establish programmatic strategies and goals for Joybound's legacy giving program to sustain and grow planned gift revenue.

  • Identify, cultivate and solicit donors to secure commitments for planned gifts through strategies such as bequests, charitable annuities and trusts, life insurance, etc.

  • Oversee and implement the planned giving donor engagement strategies, including multi-channel marketing (in-person campus tours, in-person meeting, telephone, mail, email, events, recognition in publications/videos/other media).

  • Build and cultivate a portfolio of estate planning attorneys, financial planners, and other planned giving referral resources.

  • Create personalized proposals, collaborating as appropriate with individual donors' legal, tax, and/or financial advisors, to develop planned gifts that honor the donor's passions and interests while meeting their estate, tax, cash flow, and other financial planning needs.

  • With the Marketing team, plan and oversee Joybound's planned giving multi-channel marketing efforts, including print and digital engagement and other educational seminars for donors and professional advisors.

  • Direct and implement legacy giving prospect and donor engagement and seminars to promote planned giving opportunities with event team support, personally ensuring timely individual follow-up. Represent Joybound at meetings, events, and conferences related to planned giving.

  • Collaborate with the development team to integrate planned giving opportunities into overall fundraising efforts and donor engagement activities. Prepare, present, and/or support planned giving proposals, ensuring effective record-keeping in accordance with Joybound's Prospect Management system.

  • Collaborate with legal and financial advisors to facilitate the execution of planned gifts. Respond promptly to all inquiries and legacy gift notifications; promptly execute Joybound's obligations for documentation to ensure timely receipt of realized bequests.

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of Joybound's programs, priorities, visions, and administrative strength and financial stability to inspire planned giving prospects' enthusiasm for and confidence in the organization.

  • Engage staff and volunteer support in cultivating planned gift prospects, as appropriate.

  • Ensure and maintain complete confidentiality of donor information.

  • Update and maintain Joybound's Gift Acceptance Policies.

  • Follow IRS regulations regarding fundraising, and advise colleagues to ensure external communications are compliant.

  • Stay abreast of trends, best practices, and innovations in planned giving and philanthropy, incorporating new strategies as appropriate to enhance the program's impact.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree; paralegal highly desirable.

Required Experience, Abilities and Qualities:

  • Three years' experience in planned gift fundraising, with thorough and contemporary understanding of California estate planning laws, charitable gift planning, estate court filings and procedures, including reviewing and understanding inventories, court accountings and financial statements, etc.

  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.

  • Experience in individual fundraising, including prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and donor stewardship, is highly desired.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, have excellent organizational abilities, judgment, and ethics; able to work with minimal oversight, collaboratively with colleagues, and cooperatively with superiors.

  • Proficiency in using a computer database and PC software highly desirable. Proficiency in MS Office or Google Suite and CRM platforms required, with Raiser's Edge, NXT, and Crescendo preferred.

  • Occasional evening/weekend work and local travel may be necessary to visit, cultivate, solicit, close, and steward key prospects; manage events; and meet production deadlines.
