Summary

This position works in the booming field of land development, site design, and infrastructure retrofit and replacement. Heavy elements of area master planning, large capital project coordination, and engineering interaction are part of this position's day-to-day activities. This position will report directly to the Donated Projects Senior Engineer and will be responsible for reviewing water and sewer engineering plans associated with land development projects. Work involves reviewing engineered site plans; coordinating with internal and external agencies; coordinating with engineers, developers, and contractors; and permitting for (Developer) donated water and sanitary sewer infrastructure projects. This position performs work that is technical and detailed oriented and requires application of professional engineering principles.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Completes review of civil engineering aspects of site development plans to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, ordinances, regulations, and standards.

  • Works with developers/engineers to modify plans for conformity.

  • Works with other municipalities for town approval and permits.

  • Reviews and approves multiple document types, such as: easement maps, abandonment maps, and agreements; North Carolina Department of Transportation encroachment maps; and railroad and gas main encroachments

  • Reviews water distribution and gravity sewer collection systems, ensuring they are designed to state specifications and Charlotte Water's design manual.

  • Attends meetings; meets general training requirements.

  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Accela Plan Review software.

  • Skill in communications, both orally and in writing.

  • Skill in applying conflict resolution techniques.

  • Skill in Bluebeam Revu software.

  • Skill with Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.

  • Skill in GIS software, such as ArcGIS.

  • Ability to successfully perform project management tasks including the proactive management of the critical path in project initiation, planning, implementation, and closeout.

  • Ability to develop technical reports.

  • Ability to apply and direct change control principles to project planning and implementation.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with other City employees and the public.

Preferred Qualification

  • Two (2) years of related work experience, preferably experience in urban planning, civil engineering, or construction management.

  • Prefers certification as an Engineering Intern

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or a related field from an accredited school

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:

  • Requires a valid driver's license.

  • The ability to obtain Engineering Intern certification within one year of hire

Conditions of Employment
