Plan Check Engineer

SAFEbuilt has a dynamic opportunity for an experienced Building Plans Examiner with an Engineering background for our Lake County operations. Our plan reviewers work as part of a team that strives to provide the highest level of service, improvement and community health and safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Primarily review structural plans for construction projects.

  • Reviews plans and specifications for projects to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal laws and regulations. Provide timely oral and/or written communication detailing design and/or construction deficiencies in plans and specifications.

  • Provide excellent customer service

  • Review building permits with regards to regulations set by the Building Divisions

  • Assist inspectors with difficult or unusual code compliance issues and answer questions from inspectors about plan review comments.

  • Cultivate, foster, and maintain positive working relationships with directors, managers, supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support on assigned projects/assignments.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Experience/knowledge of wood, concrete, steel and masonry buildings/structures, including CBC, CRC, ASCE7, NDS, AISC, ACI318, ACI530 and AISI standards.

  • Experience/knowledge of wood, steel and concrete lateral load resisting systems (SMF, OMF, BRBF, SCBF, wood and concrete shear walls, etc.)

  • Experience/knowledge of structural design software (i.e. ENERCALC, ETABS, SAP, RISA, ADAPT, HILTI Profis, Simpson Anchor design, etc.)

  • Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology

  • Interpretation of codes in the field and ability to provide code compliant solutions

  • Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are vital

  • Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Engineering Degree required

  • Experience with wood framed construction preferred.

  • ICC Building Plan Review Certification

  • Preferred
  • ICC Plan Review Certifications in multiple trades preferred

  • Valid driver's license with good driving record

  • P.E. License with emphasis on structural preferred

  • 2 years experience in structural design and structural plan review.

VIEW JOBS 5/28/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-08-26T00:00 Construction Inspector - Lake County SAFEbuilt is currently seeking top talent for an Construction Inspector to join their operations in Lake County, CA. This position performs quality assurance inspections and related activities for construction projects within the City including developer related infrastructure projects for grading, drainage, water, sewer, streets, traffic control, landscape warranty, and other related items. Reviews, approves, and documents field changes in assigned area. Approves traffic control and monitors landscape warranty maintenance permits. Maintains proper documentation of projects throughout two-year warranty maintenance period. Performs warranty inspections on storm drain, water, sewer, concrete, paving, sign, stripe, landscape and generate punch list for all deficiencies found. Upon completion of the punch list items, coordinates with developer to conduct warranty final inspection, accept project, and closeout for City to begin maintaining within right-of-way. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Inspects private developer construction projects and City contract projects to assure an acceptable quality level and compliance and standards in civil engineering and public works areas including, but not limited to: sewer installations, metering stations, lift stations, force mains, etc.; water installations, wells, pump stations, transfer stations, etc.; storm drain installations, catch basins, slotted drains, review and verification of all testing for water and bacterial testing, drywells, pipe, retention basins, etc.; grading and drainage work; street light installations; dry utility installations, including electric, telephone, telecommunication, and cable TV trenching, and conduit installation; paving and concrete flatwork, including curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, etc.; and bridges and structures. * Performs SWPP storm water prevention plan inspections, irrigation inspections and traffic signal inspections. * Interprets, applies, and enforces the provisions of the City's Engineering Design Standards and Policies; MAG specifications and standards; and other applicable federal, state, and local codes, laws, rules, regulations, specifications, standards, policies and procedures. * Reviews and interprets construction plans, including water, sewer, paving, landscape, street lights, and grading and drainage plans; ensures compliance with requirements governing uniform construction, installation of utilities and amenities, traffic, sanitation, and other factors. * Coordinates construction activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies including governmental, consultants, engineers, developers, and contractors. * Initiates letter of acceptance or release of Certificate of Occupancy when all work meets specifications and standards. * Notifies other City departments when their facilities will be affected by construction; Coordinates work sequences and schedules with contractors, private sector utilities, and other City departments and divisions. * Researches materials and material testing. Researches methods and practices used to complete commercial and custom home projects. Anticipates water usage needs in advance and coordinates with developers, contractors and water resources. When necessary, issues field memos, warnings, and stop work orders; and monitors project work flow. * Recommends revisions/updates to the Engineering Design Standards and Policies Manual. * Records on plans as-built information such as the location of valves, sewer connections, manholes, and water services. Maintains and records field changes on an approved field set of plans and transfers information to a maintained office set as built plans. * Reviews submitted final as-builts to ensure all field changes are included on the final as built plans. * Communicates and verifies progress payment requests and computes final quantities item by item from the contract bid schedule on City contract jobs in order to determine the amount of money to be paid to the contractor. * Prepares and maintains records of inspection activities, prepares reports, enters project data into computerized tracking system, and attends meetings. * Maintains project files including detailed documentation and compliance of contract documents of project correspondence, test results, approved plans and shop drawings, and compliance certificates. * Coordinates pre-construction meeting for each project including coordinating scope of work. Inspects finals and warranty pre-walks. * Exhibits a service orientation towards external and internal customers and maintains productive working relationships. Investigates complaints and recommends solution and implementation with developers. Participates in monthly water/engineering meetings to solve field problems and build strong working relationships. * Performs plan review for dry utility installation including electric, telephone, telecommunications, cable TV trenching, and conduit installation. * Performs plan review and inspection of traffic control plans and implementation in compliance with state and local requirements (based on duties as assigned.) Inspects and coordinates and may approve traffic control to ensure proper set up and maintenance. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: * Work requires the ability to read general correspondence, construction plans and specifications, documents, engineering technical standards, installation standards, and engineering manuals. * Have solid computer skills and experience using MS Office programs * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Exercise initiative and display independent judgment * Be self-directed and self-motivated EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: * Associates degree in related technical field preferred. * Construction inspection certifications preferred. * Valid driver's license with good driving record. * Valid certifications as a Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII) or comparable certifications or education. * A valid California Storm Water Quality Association (CASQA) certificate as a Qualified Storm Water Pollution Plan SWPPP Practitioner (QSP). * A minimum of three years of professional experience to qualify for Envirocert International requirements to be a Certified Erosion Sediment and Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI) as a precondition to qualify for the CASQA QSP examination.
