Description
We have an excellent opportunity in the Community Development Department for the position of Plan Check Assistant!
We are seeking a customer service-oriented individual with the competence and experience to address challenges with confidence and professionalism. The Plan Check Assistant performs a range of duties in reviewing and checking building construction plans (residential, commercial, and industrial) for compliance with all applicable State and City codes.
Primary Responsibilities:
Review construction plans for additions, alterations, repairs, and other projects to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances
Respond to inquiries from, and provide information to architects, engineers, contractors, building designers, owners, and the general public regarding project status, plan checking, and other code code-related issues
Provide assistance at the public service counter (over-the-counter plan checking, code questions, and permit issuance)
Perform routine engineering analysis and calculations
Approve over-the-counter plan revisions to issued permits

Ideal Candidate
Ideal Candidate:
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and civil engineering plans to ensure conformance with building code standards, and other related regulations
Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with external and internal partners
Problem solving, and decision-making skills
Knowledge of routine engineering procedures, terminology, and principles related to structural components of buildings and structures
Equivalent to a high school diploma, with specialized vocational or college level coursework in construction technology, architecture, engineering, or related field
2+ years technical experience in construction plan checking, building inspection, or a related field
An ICC certification as a Plans Examiner and/or Combination Building Inspector.
If not already acquired, this certification must be obtained within one year of employment.
A valid California Class C driver's license
