The opportunity
Our US Gas Operations team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are seeking a Pipeline Technician to support the operation and maintenance of our natural gas pipelines and associated facilities throughout Chester, Lancaster and adjoining counties of Pennsylvania.
We are seeking a skilled Pipeline Technician, with preference to someone who possesses knowledge and experience of high-pressure natural gas pipeline systems, gas compressors, turbines, gas measurement facilities, and other related equipment.
This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses strong analytical, troubleshooting, decision-making and communication skills.
What you'll do
Locate and visually mark subsurface pipeline infrastructure with paint and/or flags
Oversee and manage pipeline or utility crossings and encroachments
Complete required Department of Transportation (DOT) and Company documentation
Perform pipeline maintenance activities such as leak survey, repairs, clearing and inspection of right-of-way, and assisting with tie-ins of mainline valves
Perform pipeline locates through the Pennsylvania and other state one-call systems
Supports cathodic protection surveys
Assists with pipe inspections
Performs coating applications
Relays readings and pressure information to Gas Control.
Maintains constant alertness for equipment failures and pressure changes.
Maintains clean engine room and facilities, wipes up all spills, mops, etc.
Operate company truck
Operate compressor engines and support equipment
Plan, coordinate, and perform mechanical maintenance activities, to include routine corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects
Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain gas-fired reciprocating compressors, turbines, standby generator engines, centrifugal and diaphragm pumps, low pressure boilers, oil coolers, air compressors, large-bank cooler fans and gear boxes, large diameter valves and operators, and other auxiliary equipment
Assist in full or partial gas compressor overhauls, to include heads, pistons, rings, liners, pins, bushings, and bearings
Using PC and handheld device, completes Work Orders, enters data into Job Plans, creates new Work Orders, etc. in SAP and other required systems.
Generate gas handling plans, LOTO Equipment and pipeline segments for maintenance, and manage control of work for safe operation of company assets.
Other tasks as required by Operations Manager
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience locating and marking subsurface pipeline infrastructure
One to two years of mechanical maintenance experience
Previous energy industry or related experience
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of reciprocating compressors, turbines, and standby generators
Knowledge of regulators and/or meters
Industrial experience in a plant environment
This position requires candidates to
Have and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record
Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing
Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures, heavy lifting (50 pounds), and cramped conditions
Driving a motor vehicle is an essential job function of this position. Following a conditional offer of employment, the Company will check the motor vehicle records of any job applicant when driving is an essential job function.
