Overview & Responsibilities
Overview
To perform welding functions for the installation, maintenance and repair for all types of pipe lines required in plant maintenance or construction and pipe, material and apparatus in pipe shop, assembly and test areas, related test stand and shipping requirements.
Responsibilities
Receives instructions from supervision.
Works from work order book, drawings, or instructions marked on the material.
Obtains correct size and type of electrode or wire and flux for electric welding or rod, flux, torch tips, and gas for gas welding.
Positions work on work bench, rolls, welding positioner, vice or on floor as required.
Torch or electric welds and solders copper tubing, cast iron, steel, other ferrous and non-ferrous materials, high and low pressure pipe lines such as water, air, steam, oil, gas, etc.
Flame cuts holes in pipe or material as required.
Welds or repairs weld or solders pipe support, flanges, fittings and other parts in process in the Assembly and Test Division.
Heats pipe for bending operations.
Performs brazing as required.
Cleans and stamps finished welded material as required.
Climbs and works from ladders, scaffolds and bucket as required.
Stress relieves pipe, valves and other material as required.
Works in shop or any other department as assigned.
Wipes and keeps machines, tools and work place clean.
Maintains good housekeeping by keeping tools, material and equipment in proper place.
Reports defective material and equipment to supervision.
Observes all safety rules.
Must be a code certified welder.
Braces compressors, turbines, consoles and related equipment as required for shipment in assembly and test areas.
Set-up, select proper settings, wire, gases, feeds, amps and voltage for manual arc, semi-automatic welding equipment as required.
Perform simple layout, set-up, assemble and weld parts for relatively uncomplicated tasks such as building scaffolding, jack blocks, motor blocks, etc., in assembly and test areas.
Operates overhead cranes when required.
Operates fork lift truck and other material handling equipment when required.
Operates JLG Manlift when required by procedure.
Qualifications:
Must be able and willing to work all shifts.
Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
Shifts are not guaranteed.
Must pass Welding & Fabrication Division Test and 'hands on' test.
Prior experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
