Pipe Welder

Job Description

  • Performs welds on various types of materials to include titanium, hastelloy, stainless, and carbon

  • Performs various piping functions to include shop fabrication, field demo and install, field runs and repairs, and screw pipe install and repair

  • Sets up and operates welders, drill press, band saw, oxy-acetylene torch, plasma cutters, etc.

  • Welds on a variety of materials to include titanium, hastelloy, stainless, and carbon

  • Performs field welds on equipment and vessels in various locations and positions

  • Maintains equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety

  • May be required to get certification in operation of overhead cranes, forklifts, and man lifts.

  • The candidate may be required to work from heights and confined spaces

  • Supports company's planning and scheduling model during routine and shutdown execution

Job Requirements

Job Requirements

  • Must have active welder certifications (GMAW, GTAW, SWAW, FCAW)

  • Must have 3+ years pipe welding experience in an industrial manufacturing facility

  • Experience as a pipe fitter (pipefitter), AWS certification, and Ironwork/Rigging are a plus

  • Must be experienced with stainless steel and carbon steel pipe from 1" schedule 5 to 12" schedule 40 pipe

  • Must have the ability to maintain high quality welds in a safe manner

  • Must be able to distinguish between titanium, hastelloy, stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum

  • Must have knowledge of welding repair techniques

  • Must have the ability to weld on titanium, hastelloy, stainless, carbon steel , and aluminum

  • Must have the ability to set up, adjust, and operate welders, drill press, band saw, oxy-acetylene torch, plasma cutters, etc.

  • The ability to read blueprints, sketches, specifications, written, and verbal instructions is required

  • Must have basic math skills, able to convert decimals to fractions, and use all units of measure

  • Must be able to read a tape measure and square to 1/32"

  • Must be able to work overtime, to include nights and weekends, when needed in order to meet production deadlines

  • Must be able to physically meet job requirements; standing, kneeling, lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • High School Diploma / GED

  • Knowledge of industry safety practices and willingness to participate in advancing safety culture

  • Great Attendance and ability to work independently without daily supervision

  • Will be required to pass pipe welding practical tests

We offer excellent pay and a skills based pay progression system. This is an hourly position and benefits eligibility starts on your first day of employment. No relocation assistance is available for this position.

Position Description The ideal candidate for the Metal Fabrication/Pipe Supervisor will be results-driven, motivated by technical challenges and have excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills as well as demonstrated strong problem solving and analytical skills and ability to handle a fast-paced industrial maintenance environment. The primary responsibility of this position is to manage daily scheduled, urgent, and emergency work for the pipe and metal fabrication shop personnel in support of the site. Reporting to the Support Services Leader at our Gaston, SC (Columbia, SC) facility, the primary responsibility of the Metal Fabrication/Pipe Supervisor will be accomplished through the following tasks: * Familiarization with and following engineering standards and codes such as ASME, ANSI, ISO and BPVC for proper fabrication and installation of metal and piping material * Serve as technical leader in metal and pipe fabrication/installation/demolition needs for the site * Must have the ability to set and enforce DAK/OSHA safety and environmental expectations * Possess strong prioritization skills, ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines * Have ability and desire to lead planning and scheduling meetings * Coach, train, develop employees and perform disciplinary reviews * Be very proficient with SAP R/3 * Control fixed costs by improving job standards, setting right-the-first-time maintenance expectations and improving productivity day-to-day by monitoring/auditing ongoing assigned work * Be responsible for managing all planned and unplanned work schedules * Support site/company-wide reliability improvement efforts by providing technical assistance in resolving equipment design, operation, and maintenance problems to reduce overall life cycle costs * Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes and track the implementation of recommendations through resolution * Participate in audits to measure effectiveness of reliability related activities such as equipment repairs, part quality and failure investigation process * Assist Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations departments in developing specifications, procedures, training and processes * Develop maintenance procedures/checklists to minimize variability in plant repairs * Provide training to direct reports as necessary to ensure that reliability and efficiency are factored into daily tasks * Coordinate with plant and production engineers in analyzing equipment maintenance problems, project work and in determining low cost solutions * Assist in coordinating the activities of outside contractors as appropriate to facilitate maintenance engineering objectives * Some travel may be required (10% estimated) DAK Americas LLC is subject to US Department of Commerce export regulations and thus must hire individuals who meet national security requirements.
