Position Summary:

The Laboratory Support Technician (LST) II role will support the lab-based work for the Pioneering Medicines (PM) Research and Technical Operations teams. The LST II will work with the Laboratory Operations team alongside Scientists to help implement and maintain lab efficiencies. Together, the Laboratory Operations team will assist with several laboratory operating functions to help advance programs in the PM portfolio. This is a great opportunity to expand into laboratory operations.

This role is a 12-month contract. Pioneering Medicines 3rd party agency will be hiring for this position. Employees under this position with be working at Pioneering Medicines as a contractor with the possibility to convert to a full-time Pioneering Medicines employee based on performance and other criteria in the future.

How You Will Contribute:

  • Under general supervision, the LST II is responsible for providing quality customer-oriented laboratory services including but not limited to sample receipt, verification, and storage, sample retrieval, sample aliquoting, buffer preparation, chemical solution preparation, and assay preparation.

  • Prepares and maintains workstations with all essential supplies to ensure smooth processing of samples, including but not limited to performing equipment calibrations.

  • Works with the Laboratory Operations team to streamline operations and to perform and document routine preventative maintenance as needed.

Requirements:

  • Effectively communicates information to laboratory personnel to ensure the department can operate efficiently and to successfully fulfill its mission.

  • Demonstrates excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of laboratory instrumentation including but not limited to pipettes, balances, centrifuges and HPLC systems.

  • Exhibits ability to troubleshoot and take corrective actions to solve problems or technical issues that arise within the laboratory.

  • An understanding of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Documentation Practice (GDP) is a plus.

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Associates degree in biotechnology, chemistry, or biology with 3+ years of related experience, or

  • Bachelor's degree in biotechnology, chemistry, or biology with 1-2 years of related experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures, including but not limited to laboratory operations policies and procedures, and EHS policies and procedures.

  • Prepares laboratory workstations with all essential supplies and ensures that laboratory consumables and supplies remain stocked.

  • Assists Scientists with experiment preparation including but not limited to media preparation, buffer preparation, chemical solution preparation, assay preparation, and equipment and instrument preparation.

  • Assists asset custodians with performing routine equipment maintenance and calibrations as required.

  • Works with the Laboratory Operations team to support other laboratory support functions as needed, including but not limited to supply stockroom management, dry ice management, gas management, biohazardous waste management, chemical waste management, and glass washing.

  • Receives and verifies identification of samples and materials.

  • Labels all samples and materials according to laboratory policies and procedures.

  • Registers samples in the laboratory's sample management platform.

  • Receives requests for samples through the sample management platform and completes tasks according to laboratory policies and procedures.

  • Weighs, aliquots, and/or centrifuges samples as needed while adhering to all material handling instructions.

  • Processes, prepares, and stores samples and materials for shipping.

  • Assists Scientists with the processing of samples including but not limited to peptides, proteins, small molecules, plasmids, DNA/RNA, cell lines, tissues, and serum.

  • Supports the Laboratory Operations team with managing laboratory assets.

  • Helps to develop Laboratory Operating procedures as needed.

  • Establishes positive, professional relationships with coworkers and managers to enhance the efficient operation of the department.

  • Communicates effectively and consistently follows through and conveys accurate information.

  • Serves as a liaison between the Laboratory Operations team and the Laboratory IT team to assist with laboratory application management.
