In addition to formal training, on-the-job training occurs as we assign our consultants to projects and devote our Research personnel to research initiatives. Our goal is to continuously broaden and deepen each individual?s knowledge and experience.

POSITION INFORMATION

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pilot Intern supports Flight Operations Departments as assigned

  • Conducting Navigational Data Integrity Checks

  • Tracking Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) and Preconditioned Air (PCA) Unit fuel consumption

  • Organizing and managing airport data for the Runway Awareness Advisory System (RAAS)

  • Working with ETOPS flight plans and O-53 assignments

  • Contacting individuals through email/phone calls

  • Collecting ETOPS data and creating excel spreadsheets and produce reports

  • Review fuel consumption and factors related to fuel burn rate

  • Assist with Class II Navigational Compliance for plotting charts and flight plans

  • Assisting in coordinating RNP validation and demonstration flights

  • Documenting changes to navigational charts

  • Organizing and analyzing arrival and departure data for use in Required Navigational Performance (RNP) procedure design

  • Updating navigational chart binders and company manuals

  • Verifying 10-7 airport information

  • Assist with engineering projects related to weight/balance or performance analysis

  • Assist with filing, updating manuals, or other documents/materials

  • Assist with pilot training development

  • Observe pilot/flight deck operations through jumpseat/simulator

  • Attend various meetings and assist with pilot training classes/materials

  • Research and provide information to aid in making accurate decisions and/or providing information to others

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Must be at least 18 years old

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Pilot background (pursuing degree in aviation field with pilot component) required

  • Self-motivated, dependable and enthusiastic preferred

  • Strong written and oral communication skills preferred

  • Strong organizational skills preferred

  • Leadership skills preferred

  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills preferred

  • Attentive to detail preferred

  • Able to learn on the fly preferred

  • Able to work independently or collaboratively preferred

  • Able to maintain effective working relationships with internal/external customers preferred

  • Pilot background preferred (pursuing degree in aviation field) preferred

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software preferred

  • Familiar with pilot charts (Jeppesen charts) preferred

Interns will participate in an orientation inKnoxville to familiarize them with Tennessee Extension Programs and apresentation day in Knoxville to present a summary of their summer internshipexperience. EFFECTIVE DATE May 22, 2019 to July 31,2019 SALARY AND BENEFITS $5,500 for the10-week internship is provided for each intern. Mileage reimbursement will beprovided for travel to and from orientation and the final presentation day. JOB DESCRIPTION * The internship provides African American and otherunderrepresented group students an opportunity to study, observe, andparticipate in a county Extension program under the direction and supervisionof experienced Extension Agents. * In collaboration with Extension Agents, interns will plan,prepare, and implement educational programs in Extension subject matter areas. * Interns will present a written and oral report of the internshipexperience at the end of the program. * The Department of Extension Evaluation and Staff Development willbe responsible for the general supervision and coordination of the Internshipprogram in cooperation with the Extension Regional Directors and ExtensionCounty Directors. Day-to-day supervision and coordination of the Intern'sassignments and activities while in the county are the responsibility of theCounty Director or an Extension Agent to whom the responsibility has beendelegated by the Director. REQUIREMENTS * Must be considered to be a member of a racial or ethnic minoritygroup. * Must be enrolled in a college of agriculture, family and consumersciences, education or closely related major. * Should have completed approximately 50 percent of the requiredcourse work for the Bachelor's degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 (4.0scale), or be a current graduate student. * Should be considering Extension as a future employment option. * Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the assignedcounty. * Must have reliable transportation to and from work. * While all eligible applicants will be considered, preference willbe given to those who: § are a student presentlyenrolled in a Tennessee university or a resident of Tennessee; § have previous Extensionprogram experience (e.g., former 4-H member, etc.); § have not previouslycompleted a Tennessee Extension Internship.
