Pierce Conservation District, Water Quality Specialist

Americorps Puyallup , WA 98373

'Applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received with interviews taking place until placement is filled.' The Pierce Conservation District works with local landowners and public agencies to conserve natural resources that are essential to both our economy and our region's quality of life. Our collaborative efforts with citizen volunteers to create a just food system, improve water quality, promote sustainable agriculture, and recover wildlife habitat, is the heart of our mission.

The Water Quality Improvement program works with citizen volunteers to monitor the health of our streams and rivers in order to educate the public about how our daily lives impact our local water. The data collected through our Stream Team program helps promote low-impact development practices, informs public agencies of problem areas, and inspires citizen action to improve our water quality. Our program engages citizens in action initiatives through our Rain Garden, Depave, Urban Tree, and Streamside Planting programs.

These programs directly improve the water quality of our region by filtering out pollutants and reducing stormwater runoff. Collectively, the efforts create an informed public and help local communities meet Clean Water Act standards. Sound inspiring?

We think so and the Water Quality Outreach Specialist's project will increase the ability of our program to engage citizen volunteers in action-based opportunities, support the Urban Tree Sale program to underserved areas with low canopy cover, assist with Rain Garden outreach and programming, and support our Stream Team and Habitat Stewards. In addition, the member will assist in ongoing community engagement efforts to share this information with ever broader and more diverse audiences.

*This position is contingent on funding.
