Leidos's Military & Veterans Solutions Health Group is looking for a Physiology Research Assistant / EEG Specialist to support our customer in the Warfighter Performance Department at the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, CA.

The primary responsibility for the Physiology Research Assistant/EEG Specialist will be to assist the government customer with human performance research studies utilizing electroencephalography (EEG) technology in environmental extremes, including cold and hot environments. This position will focus on instrumenting, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting all facets of EEG data collection for specific research studies in the Warfighter Performance Department at the Naval Health Research Center.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the development of procedures and methods for research projects using EEG

  • Interact with, collect, analyze and interpret physiological, cognitive, and human performance data from human subjects, abiding by human research protection regulations

  • Operate and maintain field and laboratory research equipment such as EEG, temperature, cardiac, metabolic, and cognitive monitoring equipment

  • Conduct laboratory and field research and neurophysiological/physiological monitoring

  • Demonstrate statistical and database skills and have a background in technical writing in order to assist in preparation of research protocols, scientific presentations, and publications

  • Collect, process, analyze, and report on physiological, cognitive, and human performance markers, and other forms of data

  • Assist with recommendations for EEG focused physiology project methods

  • Assist Senior Scientists with addressing complex technical issues using best practices and through collaboration with colleagues. Collaborate with senior scientists to develop and explain solutions to technical problems to team.

  • Effectively communicate results of projects to military and academic communities through the development of reports, presentations, peer-reviewed journal publications, technical reports, and letters to military officials

Bachelor's degree in neurosciences with training focused on electrophysiology, behavioral and cognitive neurophysiology, or computational neurosciences. Two or more years of related research experience is required. Four years of experience is preferred.

Extensive hands-on experience with electro-neurophysiology, preferably in EEG recording and human behavioral monitoring.

Extensive knowledge and excellent skills in digital signal processing.

Basic knowledge of electric engineering.

Extensive computer programming skills; MatLab programming is strongly preferable.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively in a team setting.

Strong background in research methodology with experience in human research methods and design, and statistical analysis in a research setting.

Strong background in collection and processing of physiological and performance data with human subjects.

Strong technical writing background with an ability to write technical reports, journal articles, and conference papers.

Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and within a team.

Flexibility in responding to changing demands, timelines, and priorities.

Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and possess strong customer service focus. Must be able to easily adjust to different tasks with changing project and customer needs.

Ability to interact positively and professionally with healthy and injured human research subjects, to include patient populations, within a fast-paced research-oriented environment.

Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret clearance. Must be able to work at customer site in San Diego, CA.
