Position: Physiology Faculty (CUSOM)

Department: Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine

Status: Full Time

Position Summary:

This faculty member will be part of the Department of Physiology at Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM). This individual is responsible for teaching physiology courses and other topics relative to expertise in the preclinical, integrated medical school curriculum and contribute to similar coursework in the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (MSBS) Program, using traditional and innovative modes of delivery. Duties include participation in curriculum development and implementation, serving as an academic advisor, membership and participation on CUSOM and University committees, participation in the selection process of CUSOM students, continued scholarly activity, and participation in campus and community service activities. The position reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Physiology and to the Associate Dean for Biomedical Affairs through the Chair of the Department of Physiology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for both individual and team-teaching physiology, and other topics relative to expertise (and related responsibilities) to Osteopathic medical students.

  • Responsible for both individual and team-teaching physiology, and other topics relative to expertise (and related responsibilities) in the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (MSBS) curriculum.

  • Works in cooperation with the Curriculum Committee, Block Leaders, Course Directors and other CUSOM faculty to develop the curriculum and syllabi for CUSOM students, schedule courses, assign teaching, develop exam questions and other assessment tools, evaluate outcomes, and implementing a continuous quality assessment and improvement system for the physiology curriculum.

  • Serves as an academic advisor to assigned CUSOM and MSBS students.

  • Serves on and participates in CUSOM, MSBS and University committees as assigned.

  • Participates in the selection process of CUSOM and MSBS students.

  • Serves as a liaison between the students and CUSOM and MSBS administration.

  • Evaluates need-based items for successful physiology curriculum delivery pertaining to audio-visual aids, teaching materials and aids, faculty development materials and faculty travel, and any other related resources for the Department of Physiology.

  • Assists in the development and coordination of resources to assist and promote physiology faculty growth, development, and accomplishments in the fields of education, research, and professional or clinical service.

  • Establishes an independent or collaborative research program in the field or area of expertise.

  • Assures the advancement and integration of high standards for ethical and professional behavior in all aspects of the education of the students of CUSOM and actions of the administration, faculty, and staff.

  • Assures integration of osteopathic principles in the CUSOM curriculum.

  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

  • Demonstrates an active and consistent commitment to the missions of both CUSOM and Campbell University.

  • Uphold and abide by all Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, Title IX and FERPA guidelines.

Education/Experience:

  • An earned PhD or equivalent graduate degree in physiology or similar discipline from an accredited college or university.

  • Candidate must have an established record of accomplishment in teaching medical physiology, research and leadership at an accredited medical school or college/university.

  • Research experience in the field of biomedical sciences and demonstrated ability to publish in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals is preferred.

Types of Contacts:

This position is appointed by the Dean and reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Physiology according to the CUSOM organizational hierarchy. This individual will interact with students, faculty, staff and administrative personnel of the University.

Faculty Appointment:

This is a full-time, Tenure-Track appointment at the academic rank of either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology.
