Overview

The Medical Physicist Assistant (MPA) performs duties under the supervision of Qualified Medical Physicist. Shift work is expected.

Performs routine services related to photon and proton treatment machine quality assurance (QA), imaging system QA, patient-specific QA as well as collection and processing of treatment-related data. Assist in the maintenance of physics equipment. Must demonstrate competency in each task. Excellent communication and attention to details are expected.

Department of Radiation Oncology

Department of Radiation Oncology is a full-service department dedicated to clinical research and treatment. The department houses the world's first proton therapy center dedicated solely to the treatment of children.

The proton center is equipped with two gantry rooms and a fixed beam room. Each room has dedicated pencil beam scanning nozzles, robotic patient positioning, and cone-beam CT. The department has two linear accelerators used for photon therapy and multiple imaging platforms for treatment planning and on-treatment evaluation.

Imaging platforms include a dual-layer spectral CT, digital PET-CT, and state of the art 1.5T and 3.0T MR systems. The department supports multiple treatment planning and image-processing systems. The clinical physics section is comprised of 6 physicists, 4 dosimetrists, 2 medical physics assistants, and an accelerator engineer. The team is responsible for planning radiation therapy for about 300 pediatric patients each year.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's degree in physical sciences, or related field required

Minimum Experience

  • Radiation Oncology experience is preferred
