This position reports to the Medical Director. Responsibilities include:
Medical Rounds on assigned units to evaluate all acute and non-emergent illnesses, injuries and other medical problems and to direct appropriate treatment
Provide unit coverage in the event of physician absences
Participation in the call schedule, typically 1:4 by telephone coverage with the occasional need to return to the facility for evaluations/examinations
Review all laboratory results, EKGs, X-rays, consultations, and other clinical data/reports and order appropriate treatment and/or further studies as indicated
Perform timely follow-up assessments
Document regularly and as resident conditions change
Attend and participate in Interdisciplinary Care Plan meetings
Attend weekly Medical Staff meetings
Attend Medical Education programs and complete ongoing reading/study to maintain current competency
Communication and collaboration with Interdisciplinary Team and Medical Director
Other duties, as determined by the Medical Director, as needed
Usual Work Schedule: Monday
This position is designated mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events and/or other emergencies.
Per G.S. 126-5 (c1) (37), this position is Exempt from all provisions of NC General Statute Chapter 126 (State Human Resources Act) with the exception of Articles 6 and 7.
ABOUT BLACK MOUNTAIN NEURO-MEDICAL TREATMENT CENTER:
Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center is one of three state operated facilities serving adults with chronic and complex medical conditions that co-exist with neurodevelopmental or neurocognitive disorders often related to a diagnosis of severe and persistent mental illness or intellectual disability. The health and physical status of these residents require 24-hour supervision, daily nursing care, and assistance with activities of daily living.

The successful candidate will return to the Work Experience section of the application and thoroughly document, in detail, that they possess the following:
Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of general, preventive medicine and of the techniques involved
Thorough knowledge of the practice and theories of the medical specialty or subspecialty to which assigned
Thorough knowledge of interpreting laboratory results (including basic x-ray interpretations and evaluation of lab results), clinical data and information relative to the resident's condition
Ability to compile clear and concise notes for resident's charts and to make oral presentations of cases in medical conferences
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel, residents, and their families, and the general public
Knowledge of suturing
Ability to multi-task

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
