Greater Los Angeles HealthCare System (GLA) seeks a part time board eligible or board certified physician in Neurological Surgery. Candidates must be able to teach medical students and residents and will be expected to see patients in the clinic, perform neurological surgery including spine and intracranial procedures, trauma, neurovascular, neuro-endovascular cases and take call.

Must be proficient in all neurosurgical procedures including intracranial procedures, neuroendoscopy, complex spinal instrumentation, peripheral nerve surgery and vascular/endovascular neurosurgery.
Academic duties include training and mentoring residents and medical students.
Administrative duties include the supervision of clinical care, laboratory work and academic oversight of investigative research by trainees.
Provide care of Veteran patients in the Neurosurgery service.
Facilitates professional development of personnel throughout the service.
Responsible for outlining the service?s workflow processes, procedures, protocol and policies within regulatory guidelines.
Participates in the various committees including surgical operations, and peer review committees and other required careline and institutional assigned committee.
Responsible for the scopes of practices and competencies including their oversight for all personnel assigned to the service.
The candidate will work under the supervision of the Chief of Neurosurgery.
The Neurosurgeon plans and carries out the procedures necessary to complete the work assignment and handles problems and corrects errors in accordance with established protocols or accepted guidelines and clinical practices.
Meets the needs of customers while supporting the VA mission.
Consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner and requires such of the service?s staff.
Provides customers with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
Handles conflicts and problems constructively and appropriately in dealing with customers.

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Completion of fellowship in endovascular neurosurgery or interventional radiology.

Prior experience with federal employment.
Prior research experience (federal funding, industry support) Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Mostly sedentary. May require occasional light lifting and foot travel.
Work Schedule: Based on the needs of the facility, 25 hours per week
