VIEW JOBS 7/31/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-10-29T00:00 The NCVS Technician uses EMG/NCVS instruments to measure electrical activity in the peripheral nervous system used to diagnose neuromuscular disorders. The incumbent will explain the procedure to the patient and place the electrodes onto the patient. The NCVS Technician monitors the electrical activity and records the responses manually or via computer. Essential Job Functions * Measure electrical activity in peripheral nerves, using EMG/NCVS instruments for use by physician in diagnosing neuromuscular disorders. * Explain procedures to patient to obtain cooperation and relieve anxieties during test * Clean patient's skin to ensure contact of electrodes. * Attach surface recording electrodes to extremity in which activity is being measured to detect electrical impulse. * Attach electrodes to electrode cables or leads connected to EMG/NCVS instrument and select nerve conduction mode on EMG/NCVS. * Operate instrument to record electrical activity in peripheral nerves. * Press button on manually held surface stimulator electrode to deliver pulse and stimulate the peripheral nerve. * Monitor response on oscilloscope and presses button to record nerve conduction velocity. * Measure and record time and distance between stimulus and response, manually or using computer, and calculate velocity of electrical impulse in peripheral nerve. * Remove electrodes from patient upon conclusion of test and clean electrode paste from skin, using alcohol and cotton. * Perform all data entry necessary to constitute a complete study, properly identifying study results, as well as the tech, physician and patient involved. * Obtain a patient's medical history and brief them on the procedure. * Train and supervise student or other electromyography technologists. * Check, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance of equipment. * Prepare recordings and reports of findings for physicians to aid in the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders. * Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications * Associate's Degree in related field or successful completion of hospital training program in NCVS and Neurology technology with supervised practical training experience. * One (1) year of experience in a medical office setting. * Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice. * Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. Preferred Qualifications * No preferred qualifications. License, Certification & Clearances * American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologist Boards required. Supervisory Responsibilities * This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
